Running thread

37k on Sunday over the South West Coast path, 1100 metres of ascent. I was hoping to race a 54k race over the same place in 2 weeks but It was a proper struggle yesterday, hips and foot were aching, and I’m not sure I’ve got the will or the legs this year to suffer for another hour and a half plus.

Not sure what has changed this year but felt a bit uninspired and flat this year.

Whilst out for my run this morning, there was a large group of squaddies doing circuits or beep tests or whatever they get up to on the trail.
One of the instructors said to me "you're faster than some of my guys". Not sure if it was a genuine compliment or if he was belittling some of his guys, but this overweight retired bloke appreciates positive feedback wherever it comes from!

In case anyone's finding the cold and dark demotivating to get out for your runs, I've put together an indoor warm-up routine that you can follow along with in the warmth of your home before runs. I hope it's useful to someone.

Well its 7 months without a drink now.
I've just been Porto for 4 nights, done 3.4 miles on the Tuesday from our hotel across the Dom Luis bridge and back. I was laughing to myself thinking where has this come from, doing a run whilst abroad!

Cannot beat a run on holiday. Just in Malta (Valletta) so popped a slow 10k in following the path around the waterfront. Best way to see a City for me.

Manchester HM 2:02:16

Bit annoyed as up to 16km I was on for sub 1:55

Unfortunately been ill for 10 days and just didn’t quite have enough to keep going.

Still a massive ‘race’ PB, so still happy enough!
Well done. How much running do you do on average per week to get a time around 2hrs ?

I’ve booked the Manchester half in May and my target is to get under 2hrs.

Difficult to answer in terms of what you will need. What is your current fitness level? age? etc etc

I started properly training in March, ran 700km, so im averaging about 20km a week over that period. More recently though, getting up to 50km a week and averaging around 30km. I'm 6'4" and 43 years old, managed to shift 2 stone since March which has made a massive difference.

I've been doing a bit of running over the past few months keeping myself ticking over but no real distance.

On Sunday i did a sponsored 37k walk and though i got round it fine in about 7 hours, things hurt that just aren't mean to hurt. I honestly have no idea how some of you lot do full marathons and even further, it really has given me extra insight and admiration for anyone who does them.

I have admiration for anyone for anyone who runs long distances too.
The thing about running is people have different motivations and needs to do it. Personally, I just carried on running after completing couch to 5k as I didn't want to lose my newly acquired fitness. I also enjoy being outdoors and taking in everything around me, as well as using it for weight loss and general fitness.
Others have time and distance targets in mind. However, I'm just happy to plod on doing 5ks, and my only real targets are to get my average time below 30 minutes, and to complete 250 Parkruns.
