Will we win the league this season?

If Cherki is this soon to be revealed genius that his fanboys claim, why did he cost peanuts ?

How many times can you possibly have seen him play a full game ?
This is nothing. Less than 18 months ago, Celtic's reserve striker came from nowhere and was heralded on here as the second coming of Ronaldo (the original, Brazilian one) merely by being linked to City and the desperation of some to sign another striker. He's now at Birmingham and has yet to score a goal for them.

My point - football players often get hyped up beyond comprehension on football forums.

But if you can't see that Cherki has "it" then you soon will. Where that "it" will take him, who knows, but he's clearly a quality player regardless of how much he cost.

Was that Foden's best game of the season? We probably benefitted from Foden not being called up by England. Doku played some fantastic football for Belgium in international week but probably came back to Manchester jaded whereas Foden was really on his game.

It looks like Pep is now ready to unleash Cherki but I think Foden has to stay central. Perhaps Cherki will play on the right.

Agree Foden must stay central.

As for the league - I see four, five tops points from the next four (villa bournemouth scouse cunts and barcodes) and no way that keeps us in the mix.

We still look solid for CL spots too and will probably hang around there 8-11 points off the top throughout the season which ain’t too bad tbh. Next season we go again hopefully.

And that’s why it’s important to let Phil grow into the central role

This came on my YT suggestions and a really good take on the tactical shift with less posession, quick transitions and playing to Haaland’s strengths.

If the commentator is correct we could be a very scary proposition if it all clicks into gear.

Because Lyon were in financial difficulties.

Lyon also played Man Utd twice in the Europa League last season. I watched both legs. His goals (8) and assists (11) in Ligue 1 alone were very impressive.
Fair comment. To an extent I’m playing devil’s advocate here with my doubts about him - he may well turn out to be another Benarbia

Just in general I’ve been slightly puzzled over the last couple of years by some fans’ insistence that player X,Y or Z is absolutely top class when there’s no real evidence to back this up. Man for man the squad is so much weaker than it was during our pomp yet players like McAtee, Rico, Bobb, Doku, Savinho, Reindeer etc are / have been lauded as exceptional talents.

You’ve indicated you’ve answered your own question without identifying what the actual answer was.
It was a prediction, and it wasn't wrong. It appears no one has lumped on following the recent wins who will admit to it, but yet the majority think we will still win it.

We have a 20% chance in reality, if I thought it was a 50/50 between us an Arsenal or better I would be lumping on 7/2. We could be favourites come 4pm Sunday, or 11/2 if it all goes wrong.

Love to see it, but I just don't think we've got enough goalscorers in the team.
But we have a machine up front who we have actually started to play too like in his first year.
Who has scored more one his own than half of the teams in the league have managed .
Not ideal no one else is scoring.
But if you have a player that so far ahead of every other player in the league you have a good chance of winning it

But if Haaland gets injured its very very worrying, when we were at our peak the goals were spread out, we got.goals from defenders, midfielders, wide players and the strikers, now it seems its all on haaland to score

but we didnt have such an intense focal point of a striker in that team? surely this is comparing apples and oranges?

might the goals be spread amongst more players if Haaland doesnt play?

You think we'll only win one of the next four games, and based on that prediction happy enough to concede the title before the clocks have gone back?

I think Cherki is gifted but gifted players have to put a shift in. Paqueta is clearly very talented but sometimes he's a liability. It remains to be seen whether Cherki can deliver but we should be excited about this player.

Of the players you mentioned Bobb, Savinho and Reijnders have a lot of ability but that does not mean that they are going to reach their potential. Doku for me is already a top talent. He didn't have a great game vs Everton because he had played 180 minutes for Belgium. He looked drained. However, when Doku is fresh, he's now a top player. So many teams continue to play a low block against City. When teams do that, players who can beat a man become very important.

I think you're being a little harsh with your assessment of City players. We are not playing at the level we were but no one looks completely convincing. This is the annual league table, and City are the best of a poor bunch. I rate Arsenal above City at the moment because of their squad depth. They carry less risk but perhaps City have more potential for example, Rodri is in recovery and Cherki and Marmoush have both been injured.

Arsenal P28 57
Manchester City P27 56
Liverpool P28 54
Villa P27 49

City are about to face a very difficult Premier League game at Villa which will tell us much about where we at the moment.

well, should my scenario materialise we'll probably be 11 points behind arse and no - I do not see us clawing that back.
woud be happy to be proven wrong but wouldnt bet my wages on it

That does not explain why it's important to let Phil grow into the central role although we both agree that it is right that he plays there. His passes to Haaland and O'Reilly in the build up to the first goal were vital.

As I have just posted, City through 2025, are the best side in the Premier League. That's the best part of 10 months.

I don't think the majority of City fans think we will win the league. I am not even sure that City players deep down believe it yet. Hoever, this City side is still in the making. Rodri, Cherki, Marmoush, Reijnders, Savinho can improve. We only need 1-2 players from that group to do so and then perhaps conviction will arrive and it could take us a long way.

Opta have it:

Obviously these things change fairly regularly. Probably how I would view it at the moment. Arsenal are strong favourites for me.

The upcoming league games are pivotal. I need to see how we handle:
Villa (A)
Bournemouth (H)
Liverpool (H)
Newcastle (A).

That's 4 difficult games against good sides.

10 points+ we're title contenders.
8 or 9 and we'll be thereabouts but wont get it done.
5-7, top 4.
<5, prepare for a tough winter.
There’s just no way we’re getting 10+ points from those games.

We have a terrible recent record against Liverpool in general and away at Villa.

Think these 4 games are where we’ll drop right off.

Ok, but teams play, not stats and recent records.

We wouldn't have broken all-time records in England and Europe if they determined what could happen.

I'm not saying stats and records don't matter, but whether we'll win, draw or lose at Villa and vs. Liverpool depends more on the form of the teams and luck (including refereeing decisions) than on past records.

You’re talking about the most creative player in Europe last season, who has been hailed as a ‘wonderkid’ since he made his debut at like 16.

Just because you personally didn’t know who he was doesn’t mean he isn’t proven to some extent. Scored on his debut for us and France. He’s the real deal whether you see it yet or not.

Fuck off with your devils advocate and let us be excited!

I agree with this; Oscar Bobb is a prime example as he’s only started a dozen games of senior football for City (every fanbase does this though, not just ours)… but Cherki was the top chance creator per-90mins played in Europe’s top five leagues last season and he completely bossed the stats for the Europa Lesgue and there were Spurs and Rag players who played three more games in the comp than Cherki. It’s not like he’s an unknown.

Cherki made his France debut against Spain in the Summer as a second half sub and was the best player on the pitch, in half an hour he brought France back from 4-0 down to just losing 5-4.

I’m proper excited about him. I think he’s our best signing since Gvardiol, and we’ve signed 20 players since we signed Gvardiol.

I think there can be a dangerous rotation and interchange of positions and possession between Cherki and Foden when they get a good understanding with each other and can add another worry for defenders in creating things for Haaland.

Plenty of players are hailed as wonderkids - means nothing. If he was proven to some extent and the real deal he wouldn't have cost buttons.

Be excited about Donnarumma, he's the real deal

He cost buttons cos Lyon had financial difficulties and he had an agreement with the club to leave on the cheap and he wanted only City - this has been explained to you already though so I don't really understand your agenda.

Is Pep waxing lyrical about the boy in his most recent press conference not good enough for you?
