Brilliant compilation. And people are still arguing if he should be utilised more like Merlin or our Kev or whoever?!?!?!?!

The lad is a pure sniper, just get him into zone 14 (or zone 47) and let him shoot. And never seen somebody "passing" the ball from ~20 yards into the net, by all laws of gravity thos balls should fly but he is somehow keeping them skimming on the top of grass blades. Only when they smash into the net, you realise how fast they are by the sound of swooshing net.

Well that was the crux of my post, understanding the game; intelligence to be dominant in that position

Sundays first half was same, Foden didn't know how to get in the game.

We weren't getting our attacking playmakers in the game, period. We were rushing our build-up.

Foden sat a lot deeper in the 2nd and it made us more comfortable in build-up and we were getting better connectivity over the pitch.

You were pretty damming. Pep clearly has great faith in Phil.
But your post was not referring to his recent dip in form (which has been caused by several reasons) - it implied he was not good enough : which is ridiculous

I quote from your initial post:

Foden was invisible the whole game until he scored. Guess I watched a different game

Agree. Any City fan who downplays Phil has to be looked at with a side eye. Critiquing a performance is one thing. Trying to insist he's not a great player is another matter altogether. Not only is that objectively wrong, but it warrants a swift dismissal and a nice dose of ridicule.

The biggest issue with Phil is physicality. He tends to struggle against more physical, combative midfields. He's struggling more in that regard at the moment because he's got Bernie alongside him who is also not the most physical player. With Rodri back in there he'd have more freedom in the attacking third. He was poor first half on Sunday, even when he had more time he managed to misplace passes. But he got the crucial second goal and his form overall at the moment is superb.

I can't tell right now if he's lost something physically or it's purely because he doesn't have Rodri behind him and is having to work harder off the ball than he used to.

What slump are we talking about?! I keep seeing bits about poor performance in this theead. Last season I am presuming? Surely not this season? 14 g/a in December??
 
Yeah it was pretty obvious we looked better once he dropped more.

But this has been a pretty obvious theme this season and last few seasons, we ALWAYS look better when we get Phil on the ball more.

I get why Pep doesnt do it, he likes Phil close to Haaland to RECEIVE the pass from a builder like Gundogan, because then he can do damage in the final 3rd.

But the problem Pep has is he is the best player at the team at both things (sadly tbh), and so needs to let Foden deep in build up, and then let him catch up to try to be on the end of things in the final 3rd.

Foden is too good, he needs to be doing both, Prime Gundogan did, and Foden can be better.

He’s been on amazing scoring form lately and that’s also brilliant but his overall play hasn’t been as good.

Not complaining about scoring or build up, both are great. Just wondering if he gets so focused on scoring his overall play is a bit rushed. Abyone else?

I thought he played great overall for Fulham just a few games ago, and he bagged two in the process.
