Arsenal Thread | 2025/26

I think the more egregious part of that situation, is that Gabriel jumps up and "headers" Martinez' right arm, so that he can't catch it. Still don't feel it's enough though, but not seen anyone highlight that part.
If attackers are allowed to do this to keepers, keepers should be able to do the same to attackers without punishment.

Let’s see how many attackers will keep doing it after being wiped out a few times.

I saw a situation in Serie A where a keeper straight-up punched a player in the face after the attacker headed it towards goal, and nothing given. Think goalkeepers already get away with a lot of things.

They certainly used to. Now if they miss punching the ball by millimetres and connect with an attacker, it’s a penalty.

We all want to see as many goals as possible, but incapacitating the keeper doesn’t seem like a good look for the game.

Just to add, this situation in Serie A was less than a week ago.

I certainly agree keepers used to get more protection from attackers doing their stuff on corners, but then we criticized how protected they were (Akanji on Alisson, which was never a foul). Now we're at the other extreme, where they're not protected enough. Their protection came from the fact that they expose their bodies when they raise their arms.

Seems overall the physicality on corners is more tolerable by referees the last seasons. Wasn't there a directive at the start of the season where they were going to take more action against holding in the area?

Nah hes a big boy and experienced keeper, Martinez has got to be dealing with that. He let Villa down, arsenal were worrying before he gifted them that at a really bad time straight after half time
He tried to shithouse for a foul rather than attempt to clear the ball properly.

Maybe if he didn't have a reputation for it the ref might have been lenient and given the foul.

I fucking hate this habitual line stepping, they ruined the league by doing whatever the hell they want to the GK on set pieces. Used to be that you were simply not allowed to make any contact with the keeper. Look at this now, you can just elbow them, grab their arm, do whatever you want. And under the pretense of "well the keeper should do better" we're allowing clear fouls to be given and mostly arsenal benefit. Dogshit turn for the worse.

There’s a fucking shock!
I wonder how our resident Tarquin will try to spin this one.
This will be quickly swept under the carpet just like every contentious decision which benefits one of the entitled Red shirts.
They're still banging on about Rodri v Everton from almost 4 years ago and Doku v Dipperpool from almost 2 years ago to try and show how we are favoured so you can guarantee if this had have been us we would still be hearing about this 10 years from now.

Arsenal are weird because as a TEAM and player for player I don’t really hate (obviously football wise) any of them bar Gabriel and Ben White. Might just be me but I actually feel like they have a fairly likeable squad now Partey has gone.

Like when we were in title races with Pool and United before that, even Chelsea when they were challenging more so than now I personally couldn’t stand a lot of their players. They infuriated me and were just unlikeable.

With Arsenal it’s purely their fans and Arteta. They’re simply insufferable and I think fans of other clubs who aren’t even challenging are waking up to that these days. I’m seeing Villa fans root for us for the title after last night. Fucking Villa! Their fans have done nothing but belittle and insult us for years but even they’re waking up to how cringe and unpleasant it’d be if that lot go on and win it.

They’re not half the team Klopps Liverpool were, but they’ll be twice as annoying and insufferable if they go on and do it this season, which with their squad depth and money spent they really should.

God I hope we pull it out the bag again.
