PL charge City for alleged breaches of financial rules

Do we have Lord Pannick defending the club? I know that was a name figuring in the media when this shit started.

Yes, he's one of our extensive legal team. The PL have a similar number of KC's and other highly qualified legal beagles despite the media pretending they're using public defenders.

People who are somewhat informed about the situation, are you confident we'll beat the charges? I'm not asking for wishful thinking here, but that the charges themselves is an inflated witch hunt?
If you read the previous 6000 you'll find that
A. No one really knows anything
B. Some people know we are innocent, we are clearly being set up but that we can prove it and both the red cartel and the Premier League will be punished.
C. Some people know we are completely guilty and will get relegated to the Northern County division 2, all our players will leave and we will never return.
D. Everyone else knows we are between the two extremes.
E. Corn Beef comes in tins and its ace.
F. PB and Slbsn are feuding but trying to be all grown up about it (or they are secretly in love)
G. Magic Hat has issues.

I’m not at all au fait with sporting contracts, but I would have thought a contingent break clause, fairly widely worded, would be pretty standard in a player’s contract at the top of the game, where a competent agent and legal representative were acting on behalf of a player who, by virtue of his standing in the game, had solid bargaining power. I would have thought that would be pretty commonplace at that level, if not universal.

It certainly wouldn’t need to specifically mention the charges to be effective. It would simply need to refer to material disciplinary findings against the club having a significant negative reputational impact, amounting to a repudiatory breach of the agreement. Why make your client a hostage to fortune in circumstances such as those? They would then have the option (rather than be obliged) to terminate the agreement, possibly subject to an agreed transfer fee at that point as provided for in the contract. This would, to some extent, protect the club’s interests, and make them more liable to agree to such a clause.

I think that clause, worded more widely, would also give a level of plausible deniability about specific break clauses relating to the charges, especially if those types of clauses were commonplace.

All guesswork, mind!
Those kinds of broadly worded, contingent break clauses are not commonplace in elite football contracts. Many players, however, do have a relegation release clause that would be triggered if the club were relegated.

You really are new to BM aren't you?

not really, was here years ago but decided to fck off because of the attitude and people overly sensitive to fair criticism of players and performance. seems this place haven't changed much.
I would understand the attitude if I rooted for a rival, but I don't. City fans should be able to get along, what is the fkng point otherwise.

Wonderful. Which happy chappie was you previously?

Sense of humour goes a long way on this forum.

Just seen a clickbait headline that we're within hours of finding out our fate. No mention of course that this is just re. the 23/24 PSR checks. I'm beginning to hate online media with a passion.
To be fair, we are within hours of finding out our fate.
It's just probably rather a lot of hours.

We were cleared at CAS of any financial wrong doing. Unless the PL have got new damning evidence then I expect the same outcome. It is taking so long because the PL decided, probably in an emotional state, to bring more than 120 charges against City. The panel are likely to have had to consider millions of pages of information and to do their job properly, and reduce the likelihood of an appeal process, that will take them time. Plus, the panel are probably people in demand so their time is scarce. We may get an outcome this year. Come on City!

Thanks for this, much appreciated. Lots of people claimed it was due to allegations being time barred that cleared us. I'm not sure that was the case of not, but if there were no financial wrong doings, it's good for this case I guess.

The time barred stuff is a red herring, some of it at least was to do with the Etihad sponsorship and just meant that the early years weren't looked at but the later years passed just fine.
