PL charge City for alleged breaches of financial rules

At the risk of continuing the imminence debate, this thing wasn't imminent six months ago - it was considered by some people to be imminent. That's fine. It was an opinion. It was wrong, obviously, because it didn't happen. But no matter, I have opinions that are wrong all the time.

We should all try to avoid stating opinions as facts, though. And when our opinion is wrong, hold our hands up and say so. No shame in that.

In this context, “imminent” means that the panel’s deliberations are, in practical terms, complete, and that draft decisions have been finalised or are in their final stages, with what remains largely being matters of formality (such as linguistic review, sign-off, and distribution). However, for all we know, the panel may still be deliberating. The media, of course, has to keep creating content, so in this case no news is also news. You can at least conclude that this time there has been no sloppiness around confidentiality, because the reality is that today we know pretty much as little about this case as we did when the charges were first made public.
It is not really possible that they are deliberating except on fine detail after a year.

It is absolutely the case that on a small number of occasions in the last 6 months, senior managers at CFG were readying for the announcement of the outcome.

And then nothing happened.

I'm sure everybody is bored but I'll bite again.

Again, I never said it was a fact. It was a fact that the PARTIES considered it imminent (including that certain leading barristers were spending time re-reading the papers to prepare for next steps in case they came urgently) and as I said in writing it was also my best guess but that "nobody KNOWS". And as it happens, it is not impossible that it was very close to finalisation but that something unexpected derailed that finalisation. We don't KNOW. 1769080315610.png

In my view its completely understandable that the matter is still ongoing, highly complexed case and its is unlikely that the PL or City would have wanted to impose a time-limit on the award. All that would do it lead to a potentially rushed decision or worse the time limit expiring, barring a valid and agreed extension then you've got a whole other issue of jurisdiction of the tribunal, kicking the can even further down the road.

The substack referred to says - best to read it. If you really think I could predict with precision something nobody outside a 3 man panel knows, then I can't help you. You can keep trying to nail me on some gotcha on this but it won't work because I have said over and over that I DO NOT KNOW when because NOBODY knows when: View attachment 181262
So if you don’t know, you can’t possibly say it’s imminent.

There’s no gotcha and nobody on here, as far as I can see, is trying to get you, catch you out or prove you wrong. We are all City fans trying to get help and direction re this mess, that’s all. In fact we’d all prefer you to by right and it come out tomorrow.

The bottom line is your view it was imminent was inaccurate. There is nothing wrong with that. You’d have been better off saying it was “expected”.

If you were a betting man , were do you think this will land. Magic hat style , City will be fucked or more like the CAS result ?
Not a betting man, but your post is as accurate as everyone else`s, and probably should have started years ago, so here`s my bet City to get off with one maybe two insignificant charges amounting to a fine, recon i should get 115 to 2 for that,,,,, be right back i have a penny down the sofa.

So no one was looking out of the car for the windmill, so no one has seen it, so we may or may not have seen it had we looked out the window? Can someone look out the window to see if there is a windmill.

All semantics.
