PL charge City for alleged breaches of financial rules

I note Sir KS (a barrister in a previous life) has reverted to normal usage and actually uses the word "lie" when describing Lord Ms pre appointment with him.

From probably a previous era I thought using that word in HoC was simply never allowed.
Only when referring to another sitting MP. The famous occasion when Denis Skinner pointed at the Tory benches and said "half of them are liars" he was reprimanded by the speaker he apologised and said "half of them are not liars"

Whilst the Paddy Power ads may be topical / humourous / witty etc etc etc, how many Blues reading this have switched to PP as their “betting partner” as a result of their ads?
But how many have left them because of their ads. Very few, I'd say
I don't use on line betting and the bookies I might go to is just the most convenient one.
I assume you know that Paddy Power is part of the worlds biggest betting group which also has Skybet, betfair, Pokerstars, Tombola, Fanduel and others.

Reminds me of the old joke about the man who entered a pub and pointed to the left and said you are all idiots. Then he pointed to the right and said you are all fools. When someone stood up and said I’m not a fool, the man told him to go and sit with the idiots then!

Its a numbers game. They give a toss about clicks, and fans of the red tops who are in the majority.
Do you realise how large Flutter group is.
They don't give one toss about whether the people placing bets are rags, dippers or Chelsea supporters.
They obviously gear to a certain type of customer so you see ads for Tombola group advertised at certain times on tv.

It wasn't "time-barred" as such, it was just "a long time ago" - a shrug of the shoulders, I think, rather than a legal assessment. I suppose the club didn't have a problem with that, otherwise they could have caused a stink. Then the PL just said the FA had looked into it without even starting a proper investigation, iirc.

Compare that to the energy they are putting into this case.
Dealt with same way VAR calls related to us go. Funny that

Like when Liverpool won ten titles in fifteen seasons?
I love this idea that there was a time when ‘everyone did win it and anyone could win it’. It’s like it was always snowing at Christmas, always sunny in summer and there didn’t used to be any crime…

1 question to everyone.

If we are guilty, would it change how you feel about your support for City?

Relax. I think people are worrying about peoples perceptions of us. Why? The masses already say we are guilty so even if we are proven innocent this will not change.
We will still love the club, still go to the game and still seat count. What can they do? Relegate us, deduct us points, fine us....

Fucking bring it on. I have total trust in our owners and how we have done business.
We broke the cartel, they have never recovered.

They can never ever ever take my memories. My kids memories. Its all noise now to me. No i dont like our clubs name being dragged through the mud but sticks and fucking stones.
Fuck the media, fuck the red cartel. Fuck the hateful 8....we have been through worse.

This is me speaking as a working class blue. Not rich, not poor. As a man who has literally seen us in the depths to the the pinnacle.
Nothing will change how I feel ever.
How would I feel about my support for City? The same love for my club as I felt the day before my 21st on that fateful day in 1983.

Don't ever forget that when United and Liverpool were winning everything there was absolutely no restrictions at all. You could spend what you like and do what you like. We have achieved record after record despite the restrictions imposed by the cartel. Our owners have done a magnificent job! I am very confident about our future. Unlike the cartel, our owners know what they are doing.

Yep Bacon would of got struggled unless he had that massive spend early at the rags! would they of still dominated as much maybe but the gates/capcity at the swamp was about 45k but once’s the came in in 1992/93 every club got money and we finished 5th I think under Reid! But our down fall was all Swales fault for me!

Exactly. Once you've taken it in with your mother's milk, there's no going back.. once a Blue, always a Blue!

Mind, your post brought back that (awful!) Morris Albert* hit song from the 70s, which is now my 'ear-worm' for the day, so thankyou kindly.. not! 'Feelings, nothing more than feelings../ Woah, woah, woah..' and so on.. which, to be fair, most accurately summed up being a Blue from 1977 to 2008!

(* Btw, I recall from sometime in the 90s that there was great debate in the MEN when some herbert from Salford swore blind that 'Feelings' was in fact the creative output of one 'Albert Morris', a pub singer from Ordsall I think?! Nothing at all to do with the [ahem!] internationally renowned Brazilian singer Morris Albert.. and that was long before the Interweb Thingy/Social Media was invented!)

Exactly, it's a numbers game. But the herd in general support the red tops so whatever gets them going gets the clicks. Negative stuff about City gets them going. Positive stuff about city doesn't get many clicks at all.

I cancelled my account 6 months ago on the back of their ads
I did the same a few months ago I told them why so i guess they all had a good laugh in the office & I know they take the piss out of other clubs but how about just running a betting company & stop trying too piss people off?

Assume they won’t actually refund so can they not be sued for false claims ?
My brother in law got refunded on his liverpool to win bet. He took it as a free bet so not sure if there was a cash backup option.
His is an online account so he had a record. I doubt anyone keeps a copy of their bets done over the counter. It is for outright wins so an accumulator would not count.

From their own website
"More than 100,000 punters who backed Manchester United to win the league in 2011/12, 2017/18 and 2020/21, Liverpool (2013/14, 2018/19 and 2021/22) and Arsenal (2022/23 and 2023/24) will all have their stakes returned despite an official verdict into City’s alleged 115 financial charges yet to be announced.

The huge seven-figure Justice Refund is almost double the largest amount Paddy Power has ever given back to punters.

The previous highest amount came at the 2022 World Cup when Cristiano Ronaldo claimed a goal for Portugal that was officially given to Bruno Fernandes – before we overruled and settled it as a goal and a shot on target"
