Getting old

I hope your doctor is going to follow up your 3cm height loss in 1year ?
No, not too worried, I have a sore back atm so maybe I didn't stand up as straight as last year, + i had it early afternoon, last time it was 8am, apparently everyone is at their tallest when they first get up and shrink slightly as the day goes on. People are 1-2cm taller when they get up than when they go to bed. I learnt this today.

Cheers mate, sounds great advice
Apart from the don’t drink advice, if you fancy a beer have one, if not don’t. Drinking isn’t for everyone but if it’s part of keeping you sane go for it.

There’s a few old guys who go in my local every day around tea time, all single now, they have a chat/banter, sit in a warm pub and stave off the loneliness, about 4 pints a day just over a tenner, it’s their big enjoyment, they love it.

My cousin is in Thailand right now. He’s ten years my junior and insists he is going to retire there when he can. He’s absolutely loving life over there.
My oldest mate died in Thailand three weeks ago at the age of 66, dicky ticker, heat and humidity, was there on a 6 months holiday. Worked his bollocks off all his life, plenty of money, should have retired 5 years ago when his heart condition was diagnosed, life is too short, enjoy every day.

That is rotten luck. Poor guy. My condolences.

Oh yeah, I'll still be having a social pint with mates no problem. I just won't let it rule my life

I met a 108 year old woman today, worked in her flat. When I finished I said thanks, smiled and did a thumbs up sign. She too replied with a smile and a thumbs up straight away. I was amazed at her quick reaction. She seemed quite cheerful and made me think of our interaction for the rest of the day.

Mad that Wayne Rooney posts on here.

I am in my mid 80s and have tried as best I can to look forward and enjoy the life I have and look forward to the rest of it.

Unfortunately my age now seems to be why DWP are requesting what they call a Life Certificate that effectively checks if I still alive.
Failure to respond stops my pension as does not responding within a certain timescale.

Talking to a couple of my elderly friends they wish me luck having had similar requests and actual Pension stoppages for postage difficulties. They advise me to ensure I register my postal reply otherwise they claim they have not received a reply and the process has to be duplicated.

Seemingly they consider emails not secure enough yet insist on an unreliable post.

Frankly I could do without age reminders that death is probably imminent.
Post office will give you a receipt/proof of postage for nowt.

This. If you wanna do something or have a 'dream' then do it now, while you can.

You have to, my pal Dave worked so hard to the detriment of his personal life, I told him to slow down when he had his heart episode but as a top class decorator he charged big money to those who could afford it.

He merely packed in outside work but carried on with internal work. He should have finished as soon as his health wasn’t A1, he was unmarried with no kids and no siblings, he inherited his parents house and estate as well, he’ll be leaving a lot of money behind to his closest remaining family, should have enjoyed his life last few years instead of carrying on working, live the dream, don’t have any regrets.

Thanks for that info..

Apart from my State Pension, which I contributed to all my working life, I have never claimed a single Benefit, so am unaware of checks made to other benefits.

Maybe the life certificate should be starting point for ALL benefit checks and not only the elderly state pension.

You haven’t paid a penny towards your state pension.
Your NI paid the pensioners whilst you were working.
Having paid NI for 35 years plus you qualify to get a state pension paid for by tomorrow’s workers.
