The Squad planning thread

I absolutely adore Khus mate and genuinely think he will be one of the worlds best in two years time but while Pep is here then unless he is injured, Pep is going to pick Ruben.
Not sure how you can say this after Pep literally took Ruben off in our last match against Newcastle in favour of Khusanov...

I think this is entirely false. Pep will 100% not be afraid to start Khusa against Madrid if that's who we draw. And frankly I cannot see Guehi being dropped on current form. And I love Ruben but if there's any player that Pep will squeeze in, its Gvardiol. Nunes also cannot be dropped. I fully expect us to line up with Josko, Guehi, Khusa, & Nunes across the back in big games (assuming all fit).

And what a formidable backline that is. With Rodri and NOR in midfield ahead of them too. I like our chances at Champions League this year...

I think that was because Ruben was on a yellow mate and made a couple of other rash challenges so didnt want him getting sent off.

I'm sure it had something to do with that but Pep said it was for tactical reasons. Dias cannot compete with these pacey attackers. Madrid will be similar imo.

You can rest assured that every team recognizes, that most of City`s CB are slow, they are also small, Pep`s Midget Jems, which shows us just how much we miss Akanji, FFP Pep said, so if Stones, Ake and Akanji leave in the summer, Van Der Ven would be our obvious choice, big fast and strong could play LB pushing O`Rielly into midfield, a better choice would be Branthwaite, big a good footballer, uses both feet, not quick but quicker than all but Kushanov and English, that would push Kushanov into RB as each game he plays he looks like Walker more and more, just a better footballer.

There will be no centre backs arriving in the summer even when Stones and Ake leave.

Do believe you will be right, but it is Akanki, our biggest and strongest that is leaving, Stones our second biggest and best footballer, that is leaving, and Ake our best reader of the game that is leaving, which leaves us with Dias our captain and leader Guehi a good footballer composed, Khusanov very quick, Gvardiol, the best at bringing the ball out, Alleyne may well turn into our best CB as he has a little of everything at the moment, but that leaves us with 1 big flaw, which is why Haaland is our best defender. Right now people are talking about buying a right back, when we have the best RB in the league, and we may have the best RB in the world if he is push there, just look at O`Rielly a fabulous success because he had the basics, anyway i do believe you will be right, just do not believe it is the best path for City, as if you play slow CB against fast strikers you can guarantee one thing Injuries.

Depending on Joskontime frame coming back could see Reis involved next year. He’s been great in Spain.

Reis is an absolutely fabulous player, who could replace Marquinhos tomorrow, he is playing in a league that suits him, and it would not surprise me if Barca and Real start sniffing in the summer, but he would struggle in the PL, and you have just named another Midget Jem, football is great when your allowed to play football

Are we really that small? Dias is listed as the same height as Akanji. Dias has a smaller build, but Khusa has a similar big build and just a smidge smaller than Akanji. And I don’t think Akanji always used his strength. Plus we have Rodri and O’Reilly in front of them who are much bigger than their counterparts. I find a lot of teams may have someone who is taller, like Braithwaite, but then everyone else in the back line is average. And are we slow? We think they’re slow, but Khusa and Nunes are def fast. And other than Dias, most show up on the faster lists for people in their position - including Gvardiol who most think is slow. Yes, most aren’t winger fast, but they’re not terrible. I guess I just don’t think Haaland is anywhere close to our best defender. He’s just big. It’s crazy to think we’d be buying another big name CB with Guehi just coming in and need elsewhere. I think we have more than enough CBs, especially when you look at loans and and academy.

Donnarumma
Nunes
Dias
Guehi
Gvardiol
Rodri
Anderson
Cherki
Semenyo
Doku
Haaland
Pretty good starting XI that - shame you can't find room for Foden, but given recent form (and having Cherki in there) I can't find a space for him either.
We have SO many games though that you might only see that line-up 10 or 15 games a season :D

I know he can’t but Phil needs a 6 month break to get both his physical and mental health sorted imo and come back hopefully stress free abs just ready to play football. Can’t help also thinking he’s had too many kids too young and it unfortunately being a footballer is a selfish but financially rewarding life? Maybe he’s taken his eye off the ball shall we say while others are choosing at the bit.

VDV is incredibly overrated. He’s fast, that’s it. Many don’t rate Ruben because he’s slow and not as good as others on the ball but he’s genuinely one of the best box defenders in the world. He’s way better aerially too. VDV is not spatially aware and loses aerial duels for fun.

Would like us to move on Marmoush, he’s been massively disappointing for me. Not clinical enough in front of goal would rather Semenyo as a backup to Haaland and get another winger. Also Lewis and Sav need moving on get a decent right back and if needed play Nunes on the wing, we play narrow half the time anyway so he’d be fine there.

IN:
- A CM, maybe Anderson or Wharton
- Livramento?
- A new #2 keeper

OUT:
- Kovacic
- Savinho (should've sold him to Spurs for 60m when we could, won't get as much for him now)
- Bernardo (feels like this has been decided already)
- Trafford (with a buy-back clause)

Unless someone genuinely world-class comes available, don't think we need to overhaul the squad. Semenyo and Guehi fantastic signings and there's a lot of other players who haven't yet fully integrated who will hopefully get better with time
