North Stand Construction Discussion

I can still do it as I approach my 80’th birthday but it is a bit of a faff these days. I would much prefer a world class transport system but that is just a pipe dream.
Like you I am getting towards my 80th. I can walk to town but it is more a stroll or saunter with few if any stop off points on the way. The 15-20 minute power walkers may get a cob on but highly unlikely for us oldies with increased exposure from a slower walk when it is cold and wet and with further transport travel ahead.

Some years ago I was in a queue for a tour of the Maracana Stadium in Rio de Janiero and was surprised to be pushed to the front. (In Brazil they have a law that in certain situations prioritises over 60's and certain other groups)

"According to the Brazilian civil code and obligation of laws towards elderly, it is required by law to show older people a particular amount of deference." It includes other specified categories and maybe something to consider here for those eligible for assigned transport places on buses and trams.

Whilst it does not improve capacity, it would help those most in need and worth consideration for public transport if eligibility is combined with a matchday or event ticket.

SPS technology being used in stadium construction in the video link.

SPS Technology offers a sustainable, modular Sandwich Plate System (SPS) for construction that accelerates project timelines, reduces on-site waste, and allows for immediate loading. It enhances structural integrity while providing faster, more efficient building solutions.

SPS Technology +1
Key Aspects of SPS Technology/Construction:
  • Sustainability & Efficiency: The system is designed to be a sustainable alternative to traditional construction, reducing waste and allowing for faster, more efficient building.
  • Performance: It allows for immediate loading and equipment placement, facilitating a faster, more efficient, and often more cost-effective building process.
  • Applications: SPS is utilized for structural reinforcements and, specifically, for structural reinstatements, and it is also used in building construction.

If you go to the Trafford Centre on the Metrolink when you get to Wharffside you will see just how close the tram gets to Old Toilet. The OT tram stop is much further away than the Etihad one is to our stadium.

That's because the Old Trafford stop is at the real Old Trafford.

Always confuses the tourists when you see Metrolink staff trying to convince them to get on and Eccles service as it takes them closer and now you've got the Trafford Centre line as well. So just the three tram lines for them to choose from, five if they're happy to walk 1km from Trafford Bar, which isn't much further than from the cricket ground.

I still call that stop Warwick Road and the one after heading to town Old Trafford because that is where it is.

I think he must be counting Trafford Bar, which aint that close.
Its certainly easily walkable, done it a few times coming out of the Toilet. It's also an interchange station, which is handy as you can get to Chorlton/Withington/Didsbury/Wythenshawe/Airport from there, as well as Town/Altrincham. Pretty Handy for fans to be able to get to multiple destinations.

Is one of them a direct line to Essex Central?

When I came out after the derby I was surprised how few people were trying to get on at Whafside I expected thousands as it's the closet station to the ground and they didn't seem to have a different frequency to what we experience - they must just have so much choice including trains!

Have I stumbled upon Rag Cafe?
No, but transport is important with the expansion of the Etihad. It's shit now, without 8000 more City fans. As far as we know the Metrolink capacity will still stay the same when the new stand opens. With less room at the back of the North stand for fans waiting for the trams back into town.
