Like you I am getting towards my 80th. I can walk to town but it is more a stroll or saunter with few if any stop off points on the way. The 15-20 minute power walkers may get a cob on but highly unlikely for us oldies with increased exposure from a slower walk when it is cold and wet and with further transport travel ahead.I can still do it as I approach my 80’th birthday but it is a bit of a faff these days. I would much prefer a world class transport system but that is just a pipe dream.
Some years ago I was in a queue for a tour of the Maracana Stadium in Rio de Janiero and was surprised to be pushed to the front. (In Brazil they have a law that in certain situations prioritises over 60's and certain other groups)
"According to the Brazilian civil code and obligation of laws towards elderly, it is required by law to show older people a particular amount of deference." It includes other specified categories and maybe something to consider here for those eligible for assigned transport places on buses and trams.
Whilst it does not improve capacity, it would help those most in need and worth consideration for public transport if eligibility is combined with a matchday or event ticket.
