West Ham United (A) | PL | Post Match Thread

Just where we are now as a team! Ne interested now how Arsenal behave because homely if they throw this title away from this position it’s up there with the rags one!
to who?? No way this City team wins every game left and others are even further behind.

Suffer!? So you’re a new fan then? Fair enough you’ve seen nothing but success! But as a football fan it’s mainly suffering! Arsenal been suffering for 22 years rags 13 years Chelsea 9 years!

Wake up and smell what real supportmof a football club is about! It’s mainly suffering for longer than 1 season..
Nobody said it would be fun.!

It’s enduring the hard times that make the good times so special.

If you know nothing but success it becomes boring

There are supporters of countless clubs out there who’d give anything to be ‘suffering’ the way the City fans are.

If we keep Pep this is going to continue indefinitely and then 2 years are suddenly gonna become 10. Wenger also had ups and downs in those 12 years but never won the title during that. Never THE best anymore, always 'one of the best'.
All good things come to an end, we need to drop the nostalgia and move on otherwise we'll end up like post baconface United.

Haven't read the whole thread, but tonight can be summed up by 2 goalkeeping errors, and a goalkeeper who had just about every shot drop in his arms, or hit him inadvertently.

Pickford's error gave Arsenal 2 points, and Donnarumma's cost us 2 points

Also, can somebody explain "champions find a way to win" to me?

I could accept that, if Arsenal were finding a way to win, but i'm sorry, they are not, circumstances are conspiring to gift them wins.

Probably the lowest scoring team to (possibly) win the league, certainly from open play. Must be the most og's ever, (their second best contributor), and if referees correctly judged their constant fouling at corners, they'd be mid table at best. Not to mention, opposition goalkeepers making result changing errors, and just the odd deflection or 5.

Unfortunately, we will not win the league title this season unless a miracle happens.
The problem is not whether Arsenal will drop points. The real problem is that City do not seem to know how to win whenever we get close to Arsenal. Pep keeps starting with the wrong lineup and then tries to fix things midway through the second half. He no longer seems willing to punish players when their performance drops. Instead, he has become too emotional and continues to surprise us with poor decisions, whether in the lineup or the tactics, which often fail to create chances or produce goals.
We drew with Tottenham, who are in 16th, West Ham in 17th, and Nottingham in 18th. These are matches we should have won, especially after taking the lead, but we still failed to do so. Right now, Pep’s decisions have become the biggest problem.

With respect to Pep, what is he on about? We were playing West Ham who had everyone behind the ball.

He's not on about one game. He's on about rebuilding the squad and team and finding the right balance while trying to incorporate so many new players, many of them young.
I remember Stones when he first came here. Mistake after mistake he made including that shocker of a perfirmance when we got hammered at Leicester. I remember Pep saying afterwards that John Stones had big balls and would be a great player. I remember Rodri when he first came and fans nicknamed him Plodri because he was so slow and turned like an oil tanker. The rest is history, they became an integral part of our greatest ever side.
In a nutshell that's what Pep is saying now.

You now know the future? I think after next season when pep contact runs out he will leave! We win any trophy finish champions league position for me it’s a good season just because I’m an older fan scene us win nothing for 35 years! Can see why the new supporters are panicking! They’ll be better now to realise that the last 15 years ain’t normal and winning a trophy a season is also not the norm!

the more pertinent point is west ham had 1 shot and scored

It wasn't a shot it was a header from a set piece our defenders and keeper fucked up. We had enough chances snd time to put it right but West Ham who are fighting for their lives defended magnificently. That's football.

After reading through this thread the thing that annoys me the most is the attitude of entitled supporters/fans(?).I realize people are,as i am dissapointed, but the negativity is lamentable.Whilst i agree City are a shadow of themselves, and tbh,am astonished, that we were challenging for anything..but please stop your childish petulant complaining..get behind City..we have a final on Sunday ffs...

And David silva was too lightweight, yaya a sack of spuds (I confess to being totally unconvinced at the outset) Kev was overpriced, vinnie a midfielder…… players take time to settle. Usually a season. Hopefully reindeer will be better next season. Mark G and Semenyo already slotting in.(Dont get why the latter starting to get complained about. Thought he was mobile and at it yesterday.) Cherki is one of most exciting players we’ve bought in a long while. I really like Kusanov. Gonzalez has something about him just needs to learn from Rodri. Nunes and Doku doing ok now. So there are six or seven outfield players there plus foden and Harland who surely will get their form back. Stuttering and misfiring but there is something emerging. Need to find a settled first 11 and win a cup to start the next era!

Unfortunately it is for the teams we've decided to place ourselves alongside and our investors and owners see us in the same company as. Times have changed and innevitably so have expectations.
It's easy and admittedly nice to wrap ourselves in the comfy blanket of 90s and noughtiies shiteness, but we're in a different position now and we're underachieving. The trajectory since 2023 has been consistent, and now we're here. Terrible recruitment compouded by bizarre selections.
Pep deserves another season though imo, if he can wake himself up to what's gone wrong. A sterile, Stepford team where personality seems to be frowned upon. And for Christ' sake, identify your targets and actually get them.
But please, stop with only wanting meek controllable players. We need some aggression and grit in the mix too, some in game leaderships. That went with KDB.

you might be right ,but you never know ,not all players end up being world beaters. Thing that worries me is that this team isn´t playing better than a year ago, maybe others have different opinion ,but i haven´t seen much progress from last spring.

Best keeper is on the bench in my view. He just needed time to settle and wasn't given it. A big shame that. That aside we haven't won the league this year not because the players aren't good enough. It's because of team selection. Too much tinkering throughout the season. Last night was another example of that. Haaland should have been dropped after Madrid. God knows what he's got against Cherki but if we need goals he's the guy who'll provide the assists. He should have started.

Bloke who posts he is dissapointed and thinks we are a shadow of our former selves is upset that others post they are annoyed and the team aint very good. Okay :-)

I’ve said for a long time that we should stop playing possession based football against themes like these. We had 95% possession during a period and for what good?

We have players that can hurt badly on the counter so why don’t let WHU come up a little bit and then we hit them on the break.

We’re not doing ourselves any favors when our defensive line is at the midline and the rest, including all West Ham players are in the box. It also leaves us open which we have fresh in mind from Real.

It’s boring and it doesn’t work and it’s frustrating as fuck that Pep keeps on playing this huff and puff style football. No clever runs, no creativity, nothing.
