Keir Starmer

Well it wasn't garbage was it, because you stated it and I corrected you-not that it did any good.
Wrong on every count.... still keep 'em coming. I give up trying to converse with you, you are either too stubborn, too stupid or just a dyed in the wool Labour card holder.....

.... carry on, as you were.

To be fair you would have saved yourself a lot of bother if you claimed he was the most unpopular rather than the worse.

The former is indisputable based on net favourability ratings while the latter is subjective.

Hardly surprising when the most positive defence is something along the lines of, "sure he's a bumbling dull technocrat who struggles to get his message across but he means well."

Not good for favourability polls when virtually no fucker has anything good to say about you.

His eulogy is going to read “he wasn’t as bad as Truss”. Quite the accolade really.

One hopes

The "concerns" driving the rise of Reform and Restore cannot be sated by Labour, not directly, Labour sees these "concerns" as little more than bigotry, a byproduct of low growth and austerity and all of it stoked by bad faith actors both foreign and domestic. Every time Labour throws a bone in that direction they are derided as too little too late by the right and castigated by the left as selling out to the bigots.

Labour has only one hand to play, growth and prosperity, they see this as the salve for many of the country's ills, they're betting this will pull the rug from under the right and expose the fantasy economics of the left, primarily the Greens.

Labour has been dealt a bad hand and circumstances, many beyond their control, have conspired to make things worse, the truth is they're struggling to deliver and the clock is ticking.

All these. Going on if labour take a bashing in local elections is a sign of pending defeat come GE in 2029.
3yrs away .
they say. A day a long time in politics.

If Starmer can weather this current storm the governments lot may well improve. What I would say is since he binned off McSweeney the government has been less calamitous and we’ve had a couple of positive bits of news on the economy (drowned out by the Mandelson stuff).

Make no mistake he is in the last chance saloon, looks like his last roll of the dice will be to bring Rayner in as part of his mini reshuffle to appease many of the back benchers. He will know it will bring a lot of negative headlines when it happens but IF they stop fucking up and IF the economy improves then the polls might start looking at bit more positive.

So you didnt blame the government for a whole myriad of price rises, one of which was your car insurance? And this was before the increases in NI so you can't revert to that as a reason for it. Car insurance generally decreased shortly after your assertion. Premiums peaked in 2023, well before Labour got in. Not "wrong on every count", just factual. And I have corrected you on this but using your words, "maybe you are too stubborn" to accept the facts. Or maybe just be honest and admit you did. Otherwise you go into the Chippy category of being a liar.

I'm not a Labour member and never have been, having voted for all 3 main parties over the years.

I note your words about me being "stupid". I won't report it to the mods as you did of me a few weeks ago because I quoted you on an open forum as I'm just not that petty running to teacher.

I might suggest you stop doing the people of Manchester, the North and the UK a disservice by classifying everyone who disagrees with you as "clueless morons". It might make your arguments more persuasive too.
Having read back my post I have failed to find where I classed everyone who disagrees with me as clueless morons. The comment was about Reform candidates that would have no clue about how to run a corner shop never mind a local council or constituent country of the UK.
Can I suggest you spend a bit more time reading the posts that you decide to respond to or you end up looking like a clueless moron when you respond to things that haven’t been said.
Better still put me on ignore.

I have posted here what I think politically part of the answer is to the asylum issue for Labour.

Tax asylum seekers more once they are working and receiving a specific wage threshold - just like we do students.

This kills one of the main areas of disgruntlement - all the “free” stuff.

It’s simple, it’s fair, and it can be done tomorrow.

The threat Labour faces at the next election does not come from Reform or the Tories, it comes from the Greens.
I agree. And that puts them in a really difficult position.

I don't see any realistic prospect of the Greens winning any kind of power (other than by influence). They won in Gorton and Denton largely because of the atypical demographic which is not representative of 650 seats. Perhaps of 50 to 100 So they won't get more than 50 to 100 seats IMO. The majority of the non-partisan non-Muslim public view them as the utter loons they are.

But taking 50 to 100 seats off Labour is catastrophic for Labour. The problem Labour has is if they pivot left to stop this voting exodus, they alienate a much greater number of moderate voters who voted Labour last time. We'd see a repeat of the previous failed Miliband and Corbyn campaigns.

Quite a dilemma. Still I expect it is not a dilemma for Labour members who will simply install Miliband again or Rayner, oblivious.

Stop it, you’re creasing me up.

Are you honestly saying that Johnson handled Covid well?
Are you honestly saying Starmer is doing a good job?

At least Johnson was dealing with an unprecedented crisis for which there was no manual. What's Child Harmer Starmer's excuse?

And anyway, this is the Starmer thread. I never brought up Johnson. You lot just raise it as deflection. We're not discussing Johnson's shortcomings. Do that in the Boris Johnson thread if you want to waste your time.

I know you’re struggling as your making shit up to try and convince yourself you’re being genuine.

Show me where I have said Starmer hasn’t lied or is doing a good job.

Johnson was the worst possible pm to have during Covid and if there is any justice, he will be jailed for manslaughter along with wanksock. They have blood on their hands.

When Starmer falls to those levels, I will be the first to speak out

Country is fucked whoever gets in charge IMO.

High energy bills, high fuel bills - 2 main entities that the normal day to day joe public cant go without.

Whoever gets in, needs to look at the economical POV from the people. What can they do gather support from the general public. Give us something back instead of hammering us in the pocket all the time.

Politicians are so out of touch with us it's unreal.

Labour are in for a hiding in the next elections. And we will be having this same discussion in 18 months time. It's like a magic roundabout without the thrills.

Sorry to break it to you mate, but it's only going to get worse before (if) it gets better. Why? Because the sky high oil prices have not worked their way through to consumer prices or inflation figures yet. Even if Hormuz fully opened tomorrow, higher prices are coming down the pipe.

My fear is that Andrew Bailley will decide to use the only instrument in his kit bag to control inflation, i.e. interest rates, and he will at best keep them high, at worst raise them. This is the last thing the economy needs. It will depress growth further whilst people struggle to pay their bills. The alternative is a guilt bond crisis if the markets think the economy is being mismanaged, and then government debt servicing costs go up even higher. It is I am afraid a right old mess. The country is in desperate need of a complete reboot, and I think that is very much reflected by the popularity of Reform: A *lot* of people are realising that more of the same, is not going to cut it this time.
