Last Film You Saw

Watched Send Help last night on Disney+.
Mean boss gets plane wrecked on a deserted island with his walked on/laughed at female Junior employee. Yes its the usual boss girl kicks ass, but it was a fun and enjoyable watch.

Obsession

Not terrible, had promise. Sadly yet another horror movie made by someone who doesn't really want to make a horror movie. This "elevated horror" is taking over sadly.

Watched Sleuth (Caine and Olivier) last night because it was free (Youtube). I don't think I'd seen it since the seventies. It's a fun film, I enjoyed it, but it struck me for the first time that the second half is better than the first. They're both of them really over acting in the first half, especially Olivier, who seems to me to be almost hamming it up at times.

Love that film and also Deathtrap with Caine and Reeves which are kind of a similar theme.

I agree, it's a fun film, not to be taken too seriously, generally good script too, but do you see what I mean about over-acting, especially by Olivier? Until the “murder”, which switches everything round, and they seem to both calm down. I admit, incidentally that the first time I saw it, when it came out, I didn't recognise Michael Caine in the second half.

Ive not seen it for a few years but i do remember he seemed to be acting like he was in competition with or trying to outdo Caine.
I never really got the reverence for Olivier, apart from the Marathon Man and a couple of other things he was a bit too much of a Thespian luvvie. Probably born from stage work where you need to exaggerate your voice and facial expression.
If you are into Shakespeare on stage then I'm sure he was superb. I much prefer realism, the only time you should ham it up is playing a certain type of baddie.

I saw him on stage, once, at the National. In Long Day's Journey Into Night. Must have been about the same time as Sleuth was shot.’72, ’73. Unsurprisingly, he was excellent. You're absolutely right. He was a stage actor, through and through.

Watched Good Luck, Have Fun, Don’t Die. 2nd attempt having bailed after 10 mins a couple of weeks ago.
A man from the future goes into an LA diner asking for volunteers to save the world from a coming AI nightmare. Very quirky, satirical, time loop movie targeting the negative impacts of personal tech etc. Enjoyable and thought-provoking. Glad we stuck with it. 7.5/10

Score's, probably, quite fair.

What made you bail, the first time? I think you posted that? Not sure.

We knew nothing about the film - just stumbled across it. The man from the future was too wacky and the story convoluted. Plus a couple of glasses of red and roaring fire :)
Glad we gave it another chance.

Finally got around to watching "Project Hail Mary".

I must have a really high bar for what's good to watch! There's a LOT of plot holes in this film but ignoring the glaring stuff, it becomes passable to watch.

I think what helps it along is that Gosling is mainly acting up against himself and there's no one of any notable gravitas in the film... But, with that said, he's not the best character/ actor in the film!

I'd read somewhere that this film really held up with the 'alpha male' film goers. It's a weak aspect, but I can see how that straw that's being clutched at.

It's... okay for me.
Execution and production 9/10, idea and acting soilid 3/10, Gosling at its late Gosling sacharine best. I knew I wouldn't like it and liked it even less after watching it.
Moronic movie that wants to be so many cool and smart things and ends being none of them. And I don't know what happened to Gosling, haven't made a decent movie since The Big Short.
My view only, of course!
