The Squad planning thread

Transitions have also been less of a problem since Nunes and Khusanov became the right side of defence.
When we think of times when transitions were a nightmare for us, we had so may injuries and were lucky if we had Nathan/Ruben behind Bernie, and none had the pace to deal with it without an additional physical central midfielder.

I thought we looked incredibly vulnerable to them at the tail end of this season, and away games throughout. Everton and Bournemouth caused us loads of issues as recent examples.

Pep’s use of NOR has got the best from him, but was quite different to the way our fullbacks have inverted in the past. Bernardo I guess was intended to sit in with Rodri as a result, but in typical fashion he was usually everywhere. It’s what left us looking incredibly easy to attack through the centre in a lot of games this season for me.

Yeah I can see it tbh.

We have Doku as LW, Semenyo as RW - Cherki and Foden as 10's/wide playmakers helping rotate out wide as well.

Then we need to bring in someone like this that operates as a squad player than has the potential to grow and be a starter.

We aren't spending 100m on Diomande, I just cant see it happening.

Donnarumma
Nunes Guehi Gvardiol O'Reilly
Rodri [Anderson]
Semenyo
Cherki Doku
Haaland

[Charles] (Bettinelli)
[Porro] Dias Khusanov Ait-Nouri (Ake)
Gonzalez Kovacic
Foden Reijnders [New LW?]
Marmoush

Things starting to take shape already. 8 homegrown players in bold.

I agree about the end of the season, to an extent, but our fixtures were very thick and very fast, and compounded by Rodri's injury/return from.

Looks okay, though a couple of those homegrown would need to go into the free list, there's only 2 club trained ,would need to lose 1.

Would Pierce Charles not count as club trained? Or does he need to have been over a certain age while he was with City to be considered as such?

Not sure but from wat I can tell he left fror Sheffield Wednesday when he was 17 thought it was 3 years he'd have needed to be at City before he was 21 to qualify, could be wrong.

I suggested Wilson both as a player and as an example of the type of player that we could utilise. If Savinho leaves, as is reported, who is it you recommend we move for? What attributes would they bring and how much would you suggest we spend?
I don’t want to sell Savinho. There’s hardly anyone out there of the same profile that isn’t a project. Savio wants out though so I’d probably suggest keeping Marmoush and keeping Semenyo at RW. He, Mcaidoo and Foden can rotate.

I could see Marmoush going to A.Madrid to replace Alvarez if he goes to Barca.

Fair enough. As I’ve acknowledged, I’m quite sanguine when it comes to Marmoush and Savinho staying, but if the latter leaves, we’ll probably need a replacement to rotate properly. I’d considered Foden, but I fear what it would do to his confidence if he ended up back on the wing, and McAidoo only has 158 minutes ‘experience’ against a League 1 and a League 2 side, respectively. No matter how fast he is, he’d be kicked from pillar to post.

Going to be an interesting one for Viana.
