Player thread: James Milner (2014/15)

Jimmy has been a very loyal servant but two things need consideration. First is the Messi nutmeg which surely demonstrated to Jimmy, who is a bright lad ,his limitations and second he knows who may be coming and hard worker though he is a role at the dippers would make him a big fish there
Thanks Jimmy great efforts will miss the funny Christmas videos !!!

Considering Messi could nutmeg a mermaid I wouldn't hold that against him..

"nutmeg a mermaid"

Like it. :-)

Yeah made me chuckle. Pretty sure Messi nutmegged every one of our midfielders that night anyway so it's not really a fair thing to level at Jimmy. If he was shown up as being out of his depth because of that match, then so were the rest of our midfield including Silva!

I dont buy this "He knows who's coming" approach, simnply because I believe that he made his decision in December. I doubt that the players would have any insight into our plans at that point, it could be too demotivating for some.

If his decision had been made in December it would have been leaked to the press by Liverpool.

Doubtful, it was agreed in principal when they sold him on the Stevie G replacement in centre mid scenario, Leaking it would only have alerted others to the situation, signing a precontract would simply have assured him he would have played little more for us. Its an opinion only with nothing other than hearing it from a few well connected people within the game, It may be completely wrong, they haven't fed me much in the past regarding transfers but when they have they have a 100% record, unfortunately it is only when they have a relationship with players that I hear anything and even then it is only a select number of players that are within the same circle that they tend to move in. Its effectively hearsay, but as you can tell, I am happy to see if everything pans out just as I was told way back in December when everyone was still 50/50 if he would sign a new contract for us. I still thank him for what he did previously but I do think its a big mistake, I dont believe CM is his best position and Im not convinced that Liverpool is the right club for him.

Still don't see why he'd go to Liverpool rather than stay with us. Baffling.

I completely disagree. Milner at his best isn't as good as Gerrard at his worst.

Absolute fucking nonsense, although I can why you are getting confused. Both players, Milner at his best and Gerrard at his worst were instrumental in us winning the league.

Reading the articles in the last few days it looks to me like he has been offered the central midfield position, plus it wouldn't shock me to see him being given the captaincy as well.

150k a week reportedly as well.

He won't get any of that at City.

Its unfortunate for Milner that whilst he is a good player the position that he thinks is his best is actually his worst (comment assumes that he aint going to play anywhere but a midfield role). He wants to play defensive midfield and as we have experienced for several years now and exemplified by Fernando, if you don't have pace you will be found out in that position.

Apart from £165,000 a week
FA Cup medal
League Cup medals
Premier League medals
Champs League Football

Apart from all that, What the f##k can City offer him. Its a head scratcher

I will be astonished if we offered Milner 165k a week, that's desperation if you ask me.

With the new additions in the summer I am not convinced Milner would have played more than 20 games and even then he wouldn't have got his favoured central midfield position.

He clearly wasn't happy wanting to be a squad player.
