Player thread: James Milner (2014/15)

A typical Milner performance and we shouldn't read in too much in his post match comments. He is talking about our future signings.

Some of his passing was a bit dodgy today, but nonetheless made some good runs off the ball, covered a lot of ground as usual and scored. He started the match quite rightly, as there was nobody else on the bench who deserved to be ahead of him. The problem aint Milner. He's a very good squad player. The starting 11 was spot on, not said that to often this season. The two midfield substitutions just made us weaker.

He's probably a top 4 player but not a top player who will make the difference which is what we need

FWIW he looked very uncomfortable talking about the future and next season and towards the end of the interview it sounded like he said they.

Pretty obvious he's going now otherwise he'd have got on and signed the contract (if indeed we have offered him one)

C ya!

When you compare him to the sort of wingers that the top teams in Europe would have used if they'd played the system we did today, it's clear that he's not even close to the level required. A workmanlinke player in a position where most teams have world beaters. He won't "let you down" as such, but he won't win you games in the way that other players would. A useful squad player in his versatility, but no more than that, unfortunately he seems himself as more than that so will have to go.

He was pretty off today other than his goal. He leaves with my blessing and good wishes

looks like were going round in circles with this argument, when we see the new guy with milners work rate ,but another level of skill, all will be forgotten

One of his poorer performances for me, still a blow if he leaves us and for nothing.
