Just seen this in the BBC's gossip column from today's Guardian:

Dear God. Has he been reading a script or shut in a darkened room with Rush, Thompson and Hansen?

i await the day they unearth an aboriginal Brazilian from darkest Amazon who doesn't speak a word of any popular language but who has faithfully followed them since he was a wee lad running around in the jungle (naturally every Saturday he would race down to the local village and find the television and sit captivated watching his heroes perform). brodge could then proclaim him to be the bestest striker in the werld.

Well thats a bit rich coming from a club who went how may decades before signing a black player ? ;)

Reckon Firmino will come here. Liverpool aren't the attraction they once were to our foreign friends. History only gets you so far. Firmino probably wasn't even born when they last won the title

You'll get Firminho, De Bruyne and Sterling*? Silva to play defensive midfield?

*I highly doubt you're paying 40-50M for a bench player, Sterling will start if you get him.

how many decades from when? cliff marshall was our first one in 1974, if i split hairs i could argue the case for trebilcock in the mid 60s.the first black player to play for liverpool was howard gayle who signed in 1977.

without looking for the statistics who was city's first black player and what year? in the history of the england football team only 76 black players have played for them. am not saying racism did not exist at everton via board and fans but it was no worse than a lot of other teams. canoville was the first black player for chelsea in 1982

1965 Stan Horne I think.

What's the point of this debate?

Ings rejected the squad numbers #7 and #8 and chose #28.

Maybe it's just me, but that's the sign of somebody who's a little overawed. Doesn't strike me as the move of a player who's about to score 20 goals for them next season.

I always thought it was Daniel Amokachi, thanks for setting me straight on that one

Actually for a change i hope Ings is not expected to bang in 20 goals and that him and Origi will be allowed to develop. We have a tendency of burning out young players (Sterling, Ibe), putting to much pressure on them (Markovic) or expecting role players to suddenly be saviours (Lambert).

Maybe Firmino will get #7, apparently it's a done deal.

If we get 50M for Sterling, AND:

Firmino comes in for half of that,
we still get a decent mobile striker that is not young or old,
we get a right-back, and
Lucas doesn't leave

then i'll actually be pleasantly surprised by this transfer window. It'll be our best transfer window in quite a while.
