Earlier someone posted a pic. of the swamp on here and i noticed there was a canal ? (waterway) on the right hand side of the pic.- possibly behind the SAF stand.

Here is the question.:Does the Ashton canal near the Etihad run into Manchester - maybe Canal Street - and continues west.?.So is it possible to travel by boat(canoe) etc.
from the Etihad to the swamp.

If the Mods want to move this - ok. I did not want to start another thread - I wonder which forum it will end up.?.

Spot on, I biked that exact route to the Etihad from Urmston last Month, takes just over an hour

I wonder if the club is planning more 'City Square' areas ? With hopefully 6'000 more fans expected , maybe the club should be looking at this .

I think the atmosphere is more to do with the fan demographic changing than anything...it's no longer the working class game we were used to...although you went to Maine road 13 years before I was born! (My first game was 81/82)

I think the introduction of the more middle class fan...the tourists...and all seating in stadiums have had a seriously detrimental effect on the match day experience...I'm just crossing my fingers that the new SS singing section will be a success and we can bring back a little intimidation into our home games
ALL the people who sit around me are working class manchester and district people. wish people would stop with this blaming tourists and middle classes shit ,its not THEM its US,we all need to put a little more effort in

The plan was always to use the current City square as a temporary area, the future "city square" will be more like Wembley now is with restaurants, bars, cinema & shopping for those inclined to do so... Also a nice swanky hotel. In the very first stadium thread "Las Vegas" something or other Jrb was sent plenty of info via PM as to what the plans/briefs were. Even back then in late 2008 (October if I remember correctly) it was suggested the stadium would eventually be 100k capacity. Fbloke will back that PM up as will a few others ;-) I've enjoyed watching it all unfold & recent plans I've seen (no I'm not posting or PM'ing to anyone as I'm not supposed to have them) show how the outside/entertainment areas will look. The brief was always "bigger than United" & that meant on & off the pitch, & that's never changed.

100k, really?

Even United would struggle with that.

70,000 empty seats are you f***ing sure?

That's his ultimate aim yeh, the plan I have, or rather render, shows the two ends complete but plan is to add to the sides too down the line. As well as shops etc it shows a huge wind turbine near the current gas cylinder in the East car park.

I tell you what mate, if we can get 100k at City in the next 20 years then it's some achievement from Mansour.

I would imagine to get 100k in a 4th tier would have to be added on top all around the stadium? A bit like the Bernabeu.

In regards to the City of Manchester, if it could house two 100k stadiums it would be something for the City considering it's size.

Most capital cities don't even have one 100k stadium let alone two.

In fact only Madrid and Barca house upto 100k on a match day.

Ok, first off it's the Sheikhs brief not mine, & I know that's his ultimate aim as my old man was in the meeting at the time hence my email/PM & details in the Vegas thread even back in '08-'09. Secondly why would we have "two 100k stadiums"? Utd hold, what, 75k? With what he has planned for the area I can assume he's expecting to bring in the crowds & not just doing it for the shits n giggles. Not just for football but id imagine other sporting events & concerts too.
Now I'm not really phased if people want to believe the Sheikh is thinking big & long term, nor am I really bothered how long that takes. Someone asked a question & I responded with what I know. Take with a pinch of salt if it makes you feel warm & fuzzy.

There are too many locks on that section of the canal. It would probably take around 2 hours to get to the stadium from Piccadilly basin

I have a question for those in the know about the new SSL3. Apologies if it's already been answered/discussed . The current level 3 stands have the spiral access which makes it easier to get up there, especially for unfit fans (for whatever reason). Given the lack of space behind the SS, I take it fans will have to walk up a series of stairs ala Newcastle away end ? Could be quite an arduous trek for some !
