Rony Lopes

Why does lopes deserve to get in the first team?

Why has Denyer signed a new contract why has Roberts signed etc ?
Because he's widely considered to be one of the best young talents in Europe? Because he's proven that he's capable of playing first team football, has looked completely at home whenever he's played for us and has done just about everything possible to earn a chance? It's piss easy to make excuses to not give young players a chance, but that's all they are, excuses. He has done more than enough to deserve a chance to prove himself and if we don't give him a chance then it would raise a serious question as to what a player has to do to even get a chance, especially when we have players playing regularly who are far from undroppable.

I imagine Denayer has signed a new deal because we promised him gametime, he clearly took some convincing of that. We're selling people a concept, but we have yet to actually show that we mean what we say.

I'd be very disappointed if we sold Lopes, especially just days after "promoting" him to the first team.

Another loan would make more sense, as I think he'll have limited opportunities if/when we sign De Bruyne. Personally I'd rather sell Nasri and give Lopes a chance.

Completely agree I think having Nasri so far down the pecking order will be bad for the dressing room.

I would sign him up on the basis that after another loan there will be a spot for him in the first team if he performs well out on loan. Loan him to Lyon who are a good team and will probably challenge for Ligue 1 this season (finished second last season) which of course would be brilliant experience for him before coming back to us. We can also see if he can establish himself as a starting player in a team like Lyon - if he can't then we should be asking questions but I'm sure he would.

I also think we really need another playmaker in the mould of Silva, Lopes, Isco. Silva is getting on a bit (hopefully he can play a Pirlo-eqsue role for us when he hits 32+ if he doesn't want to be at Las Palmas by then). You really notice something has been taken away from the team when Silva isn't playing, fluidity that Nasri doesn't provide.

I don't think Nasri will be far down the order.

He's not going to be first choice, and he's further away than ever before. Sterling Silva De Briyne will obviously be the starters.

I can see navas being above Nasri, because his pace will be useful and he works hard in defence, plus Pellers loves him.

Bony might even affect his game time because in some situations where one of those 3 are injured, I'm sure Pellegrini will fancy 2 strikers.

nasris problem is that he's so inconsistent. When he's on top form then he's world class, but it only happens half a dozen time s a season, and when he's not on top form, he doesn't add as much as the others - in fact his style contributes a lot to how pedestrian the attack can be.

But back on topic to Lopes....

We know Pellegrini has this "2 players for each position" rule. As I see it, that puts Rony in the squad.

Sterling, Silva, De Bruyne.
Lopes, Nasri, Navas.

6 players, 3 positions. 60 games a season.

That should be more than manageable. The first choice players would expect to start nearly 40 games a season, and the second choices can look forward to 15-20 starts +sub appearances.

That should be enough for Lopes to be happy, and for us to see how good he is, whether he could replace Nasri.

And why wouldn't we keep him in the squad? Can't loan a player with 10 months left on his contract, and the amount of money he'd bring in if we sold him would be negligible - £5?

Keep him to his contract, and use this season to show him he's got a place in the club's future. If he plays a decent amount of games, I'm sure he will happily renew his contract by Christmas.

If we can't convince a 19 year old kid of that plan, then we have some serious issues. And if he's not good enough, doesn't play and we lose him for free, we've only lost a couple of million. It's worth the gamble to keep him.

Didn't play much in preseason so perhaps this has been likely for a while. Garcia, Barker, Nacho and Denayer played more.

It's not obvious to me that someone we have not signed will be a starter and, if we do sign KDB, he will still have to prove himself; although I agree that he would be bought in expectation of being a regular starter. However, I do not envisage Pellegrini rotating less; in fact, I can see him rotating his midfield more, in order to keep his best players as fresh as possible throughout the season. So there should be plenty of game time to go around and I can see Nasri rising to the challenge and grabbing his fair share.

I don't think Nasri will be far down the order.

Silva, Sterling, De Bruyne will all be ahead of him so by getting rid we would have Roberts, lopes and Navas as backups. ( or sell Navas and keep Nasri)

There was on my mobile. Along with Lopes. Perhaps you are looking at the wrong page.

Main page > top right drop down menu > players?

That being said Delph isn't showing up either and Jovetic is still listed. I know it's a 'loan' and all but after the official social media farewells it seems a bit odd. An iPhone issue maybe?

Also, to get myself back on topic, hasn't Kelechi said his preferred position is a deeper, more creative role? Another reason why Rony could be deemed surplus to requirements?
