Agree with this

Might be wrong but what top club in world football has more than three senior centre backs

Madrid - ramos (who can play rb), varane and pepe Nacho

munich - dante, boateng, benatia Badstuber Martinez

barce - mashcerano, pique, bartra Matthieu

chelsea - terry, zouma ( who can muliple positions), cahill
Edited for accuracy.

Belittling Denayer's performances is grossly unfair. He has played in big games against tough opponents, he has played away from home in France & starred, he has narshalled the defence in the San Siro with ten men & starred

If he was bigger, I would start him in every single game ahead of anybody. It is only his physical size which makes me think he needs time. Vinny showed Ivanovich how that works on Sunday & he's a fucking big unit. That's my only concern re Denayer. So play him in another position if he struggles. Get rid of someone else.

And that's why I said I believe you may well be overrating Denayer based on where his game is currently. 1 season of football in Scotland, interspersed with very occasional higher quality games (a handful) against better opposition is nowhere near enough to be suggesting he should "start....in every single game ahead of anybody".

Not sure Messi's a valid comparison mate, he was more or less ready to slot straight into Barca's first XI straight from La Masia. He was that good.

I agree with the point though, there'll always be a player out there who'd make a better short term fix than giving a talented young player a shout. If you have that attitude you'll never blood in a young player into the side.

Denayer's the closest thing we've had to a proper ready made academy graduate since the takeover IMO, and we've shown a complete lack of trust in him.

Yes Messi was good enough to play but they are Barca. Messi wasn't the best pkayer in the world at that age. They could get the best. They used Messi instead because of what he could be not because of what he was already.

If Denayer is as good as he thinks he is (along with fans that have actually watched him play including myself) he has nothing to worry about. He will get plenty of game time once the cup comps come round. For the first time in ages we are going to be in a position where mid week european games, league cup games etc won't totally screw our league form up as we will be able to 'rotate' and rotate with quality at that! Chill out everyone

Clubs that develop their own players, trust them & risk relying on them from time to time, because it is important.

If you look at what you have posted, then it means no young player will ever play for City. We can always find a player who, if we don't sign them, we could be said to be 'missing out' on strengthening, as opposed to promoting a kid. Always. Even when Messi was a kid, he wasn't the absolute best player Barca could have had. He was used because he was good enough to play a part not because he was perfect. Same with Giggs at Utd. He wasn't the best winger in the league at 19 there were better, older players. They could afford to sign better. None of those kids were the best. They chose to trust them & develop them. And won the title.

You're fighting a losing battle sadly. Most are convinced the club are getting this youth development thing right and genuinely believe players should be farmed off on loan all the time until they're good enough at the age of 23 or sumat stupid. Mental.

I didn't say he should. I said if he was bigger I would. His ability & Kompany's build he would be the best defender in the world. He looked a much better player than Verane by comparison at international level, in every single aspect of the game except size.

Zouma is way ahead of Denayer. Yet I would expect Denayer to have made 15 appearances for City by the time he's Zouma's age. Verane is over 2 years older and is a huge exception and the others are not centre halves. Thanks though.

In Varane's first 3 seasons at Real he made a total of 38 league appearances, so averaging almost 13 league games a season. Denayer has a decent chance of playing more than that over the next 3 seasons. Zouma had 3 full seasons of first team football in the French top division before Chelsea signed him, and only played in 15 league games for them last season anyway.

Maybe Denayer agreed to sign the contract with the promise of being 3rd choice CB when MDM leaves next season.

Now we are signing another CB he will still be 4th choice next season as well.
If we are stronger for buying Otamendi, I couldn't give a fuck really.

Not at all. The fact that Denayer and Nacho are in the squad and indeed have been on the bench is a wonderful thing for everybody who wishes well for City. The point I am making is that it is a two way thing. The club have done and are doing their bit. The academy graduates have to do theirs, in the sense that they have to trust that the management will utilise and develop them not just for the players benefit but ultimately for the clubs.
Can Denayer guarantee he will hit the ground running. Of course he can't and if he doesn't then City would be negligent if they did not have adequte cover in place for that position. If instead of holding the club to ransom he knuckles down, I'm sure he will have a very big part to play in this team.
Patience is the key.

he asked are there twenty year old squad players at similer clubs to ours and the answer is yes there are loads.

Really not surprised to see the kickback this has had with Denayer.

I thought we had the perfect balance going into the season, Kompany and Mangala first choice, Denayer and Demichelis on an even footing for backup. Both would be content with that role given their respective ages and stages of their careers.

Denayer had a breakthrough year last season, was playing for Belgium only recently.

He didn't have to sign that new contract, and there was clearly some deliberation with the club before he did sign it, now as his agent said, it seems they've been mislead.

I really hope signing Otamendi doesn't prove costly, can't let go of a youngster like Denayer. Sends out the wrong message to the academy lads this move, IMO.

What more could a young lad like Denayer do to earn his place in the squad and chance at first team football?
So yet again you're unhappy. Well I'm truly shocked.

Bottom line is we don't need 5 CBs.

This will likely be Pellegrini's last year unless we do something spectacular, and either way he'll want to leave on a high.
Thus Demi will stay and Denayer will go on a 6/12 month loan. He is in need of more minutes than Demi and Demi has the experience.

I think we could even give Denayer that role seemingly earmarked for Demchelis atm, bring him on late in games in front of the back four to shore up the midfield.

He's often been talked of as having the quality to play in midfield. Come to think of it, we could shift Demichelis out and keep Denayer as 4th choice centre half, and get him minutes in that role this season.

All he lacks is experience. It'd take a leap of faith, that I don't think Manuel has in him at present, but I think it'd be an option.
