Yeah I went back and checked the squad even on his Porto form I have no idea how Campanaro made the 23 ahead of him.

Argentina, and Brazil to a degree as well, are like that. There's a lot of "if your face fits" squad selections where actual form and ability seem to be ignored. Brazil just added Kaka back to the squad, despite him playing in the MLS now and hardly pulling up trees. Argentina had Swansea's Fernandez as a starting centre half, and he looks mediocre. Plus remember Argentinian forward Palermo? A big, clumsy lump of a forward, yet he was getting into the Argentina side as a 36 year old!

Given Denayer was looking for assurances that he would play a few weeks ago I'm hoping he's fully on board. Personally, I can see a lot of advantages to giving him a year's first team experience in a good league. He'd surely come on better than by playing the odd League Cup match here. But it sort of begs the question what will happen next season. Surely Denayer will want to challenge for a first team place here by then? Will Kompany, Mangala Denayer and Otamendi be happy scrapping it out for two places? That's presuming Demichelis will be retiring around then...

Unless a serious injury occurs to one of them, I don't see us keeping those 4 happy for too long. But at the same time what a great position to be in, it will literally be as simple as the best 2 CB's and the 2 that form the best partnership will prevail!
We look to sign the very best players these days, with that we will lose some excellent players along the way and players that have been extremely popular at the club.
Evolution...........

Yeah I remember them playing centre halves, left backs, midfielders and wingers at right back ahead of Zaba for a long time so I wouldn't take it as an indication of anyone's ability. The Brazil 2014 WC squad was a disgrace as well. No Douglas Costa or Luis Adriano and Jo/Fred in instead, let's not talk about the midfield :D

So another example of a club being absolutely financially sound but UEFA's crap rules forcing them to make financial decisions they really don't need to make. UEFA really are a corrupt bunch of twats.

FFP is just another way of looking after the elite and someone surely will challenge this.

Barca and Real have the monopoly in Spain and that's the way UEFA want it to stay.

Good signing for us but feel for Valencia fans

Well if we're going to spin it as an £8 million signing then Valencia can say they got Negredo on a free
Ironically, if we call it £8 signing (without mentioning Negredo at all) then they would be within their rights to say we paid them £8 to take Negredo!

On the other hand saying Otamendi cost us "£8 + Negredo" is somewhat more acceptable.

It depends on the terms of payment. If Valencia haven't paid in full for Negredo we're still short of money. Because of FFP this could be one of those deals where we scratch their back and they scratch ours. We give them a lump payment to help balance their books, get a good player for cheaper and allow them to keep paying Negredo installments as previously contracted. It means we're down on cash but happy with signing a good player for under his going rate and it means they balance their books.

So it looks like today's the day.

Who is going to be taking a trip to the etihad to see if the blue carpets out and who is stationed at the hospital?

CITY IN OTAMENDI BREAKTHROUGH

Man City are also looking to make a major addition to their defence - and Sky Sports believes there's been a breakthrough in their bid to sign Nicolas Otamendi.

We understand that the Argentine centre back has agreed a five-year deal. His release clause at Valencia is £35m - but City are negotiating a fee between £24m and £32m.

EH?

In accounting terms, he is not costing £8. By writing off the £23 payment from valencia, in essence we are taking a -£23 hit to our accounts receivable, plus the £8 payment we are paying Valencia, that is an outlay of £30-31.

Personally I could care less how it is reported, all that matters is that MP gets the players he needs
