Post Match Thread: City v Juventus

I thought Silva was more of a problem than Nasri personally. Had Navas been on Pogba would not have got that pass away. All the time in the world & he'd already shown it to us a few minutes earlier but we still fucked up.

We would finish mid table if we played in the Prem like we do in Europe.

Silva was obviously not fit and comfortable, he was barely walking let alone running, losing the ball left, right and center. How the hell he finished that game is out of my mind. I was screaming on my screen from 50th minute to get him out.

The miss by Sterling just after we'd gone 1 up was crucial. If he buries that we go on and win. Unbelievable finish by Morata....big lesson for Sterling and Bony. Can't miss easy chances at this level. Unimpressed with the energy levels and general lack of intensity - Fernandinho excepted. Silva nowhere near fit.

Pretty much sums it up!

Surprised by that, really thought we'd put in a winning performance.

I'm not sure we were as bad as some on here & no doubt what people are going to say we were, this was Juventus who got to CL final last year & are renowned for their defensive capabilities yet we had 3-4 pretty good chances to score tonight. We didn't give them much either, Pogba missed a volley was the only chance I remember them having that didn't go in - & their second chance was hardly even a chance, a bobble to Morata who produced a fantastic finish on his wrong foot. They were just more clinical, but we had the better chances.

So performances:
Hart can't be blamed for either goal.
Defence did OK really, Mandzukic goal avoidable but still a damn good cross & sure Otamendi could have done a bit better against Morata but you have to credit the striker there & I wouldn't blame him for that.
Dinho did great in midfield, breaking it up, probably our best player for me.
Yaya wasn't horrible, but when you see what he can do it's hard not to be disappointed when he doesn't provide any spark in a big match like tonight.
Silva arguably the worst player on the pitch & that is the first time I've ever said that & wouldn't be surprised if it was the last. He didn't look fit at all.
Nasri for me was disappointing, I had defended him & said it would be harsh to drop him.. But he just didn't turn up tonight, provided nothing, we need consistency & he sadly doesn't seem able to produce it for us.
Sterling should never have gone off for me, sure he missed his chances but he was the one getting the chances, when he went off we had KDB Nasri & Silva - where is the pace or width, who exactly are they going to pass to making runs..? Nasri/Silva should have gone off for him.
Bony again is one I've defended recently saying he's been great holding it up & goals will come, but he just didn't do enough today, never looked like he was going to provide a goal or assist.

It was a horrible result when combined with Sevilla winning. We now have to beat Sevilla at home to get out the group for me, and beat Juve away to have a chance at topping it (now a huge task to achieve).

Poor result. Definitely way too flat. Starting Nasri was a mistake an De Bruyne also should have started. Bony was fucking dire.

On a positive note, Fernandinho was great again.

It's sad isn't it. Is there anything more skin crawling than reading a post match thread after we've lost.

You have come on here to read it, were you expecting everyone to be pleased after witnessing the same performance and outcome as we have seen for a few years now. We have spent massive amounts of money on new players whereas Juve have lost some of their best but were far more streetwise than us.

We played very well for most parts of the game, and there was improvement from last season, we defended well for most parts considering we were playing the finalist of last season and it was just the amount of chances we missed and two soft goals we conceded.Tough loss to digest but i hope we could use it as launching pad

I think the only reason nasri was chosen over kdb was because of his weekend exertions and he haven't played been with the squad long enough, but going forward would like to see him being more bold and play further up top rather than just limited on the wings

Dino was way better than pogba though and pogba was way better than yahya

This reflects clearly on TV and surely noticed by the player... And instead of acting as the 12 th man, as is the case in the premier league, the crowd is flat and so are the players

Attitude needs to change... Not all will take to the champions league but make no mistake the owners surely do!!
Yep....we went 20 years not being in it...I could go another 20...I just can't get into it....the league cup gets me more excited if I'm honest. ....old skool mate.

Oh so indirect with such a slow build-up. Hundreds of short sideways or backwards passes. Any decent Italian side will lap that up and, tbf, Juve defended well and scored a beauty.

There's a lot of pressure on the club to succeed in the CL and it seems obvious that the owners place a lot of importance on it

I think that pressure filters down to the players. They look nervous, don't play their natural game and make silly Unenforced errors

Fucking up against it again now. Probably need to win the next two games and that won't be easy

The worry is fans seem to be losing interest in the competition including myself. Predictable.

Said the same to my mate on the way home. I'm tied in for the 3 home games but won't be wasting another penny on CL football.

We're shite at it and the entertainment value is zero. I'd rather we had a go and got beat instead of slowly passing the ball sideways.

Every year I get excited for CL and then I'm reminded how City continue to come up small. I can't believe I let myself think this year would be any different. Stupid team selection for the 2nd match in a row and this time it cost them.

Some things I don't understand -

- If Aguero was only available for 6 minutes, why even have him on the bench? If he was available for more then why wasn't he brought on when he could have made a difference?
- What is the point of de Bruyne? If he can't merit a starting spot over Nasri, why have him at all?
- Three minutes???? Three goals, six substitutions, an injury and Juve flopping to the ground and then wasting all kinds of time before taking their kicks should have added up to much more than three minutes.
- Bony???

Were you there by any chance?

Because it's something we will not tolerate on here, people sat behind there keyboards slagging off match going blues
because i am disabled i don't go or cant go However with us starting the season on a great run against italys best the atmosphere was ridiculous tonight it was flat just like the performance and why did we not start with KDB

I'm quite optimistic after that performance.
It's all small margins isn't it in Europe's top stage. If sterling had scored early on then it would have been a completely different match I feel. He should have scored 2 and bony as well before our goal. But we didn't and juve scored with two half chances, although not many defenders would have stopped pogba cross.top class cross.
We miss aguero so much when he's out. Not just his scoring but his running and movement as well. Bony just didn't do enough tonight. I love yaya but in Europe he seems to be showing his age a bit. Would we be better off without him in the more defensive roll?

Yep. Against Borussia if we don't get 3 points then we'll be lucky to make it out of the group, because after that comes 2 matches against Sevilla in a row.

Mate, you will never figure it out so don't worry about it lol

I'm losing interest to be honest. I believe we have a better team than Juve but they were smarter than us tonight. This group of players has a mental block that I don't think we'll ever get over & the fans have stopped believing in them now in Champions League games.

Gutted with the result and totally pissed off with the diabolical coverage on BT
How many times did they show the own goal and bitch about it should have not been allowed ?
This, fcuking cnuts the lot of them, instead of being delighted that an English team got a stroke of luck to get themselves in front against last seasons champions league runners up,they rather show different angles to show how hard done by juventus where,I bet if it had been juventus who scored like that it would have been something like "you just have to take it on the chin or these things happen now and again" horrible anti city bastards...

Lad behind me had it right, it was like watching a fucking tennis match with the ball going to the left, then the right, then the left, then the right......

Oh, and not long in, so can someone enlighten me on the Kompany substitution?

Oh, one more, how did Nasri get to stay on?
