Attacks in Paris

Of course there are, but I have some knowledge of the resources we throw at this, in places like GCHQ, and they are huge, and we are very good at it, and we have been for a long time. I doubt there are many countries in the western world as good as we are, but we'll never be perfect sadly.

We must be good at it or there would have been more incidents in the UK: this country must be high on the terrorists' hit list, 2nd only to US I would think.

Who is being hysterical, in your opinion? This is a pretty serious incident, isn't it? Not saying it will happen here but there's only a few miles of the English Channel between the two countries. And because the twats are going after soft targets, it doesn't take that much planning. Just a few idiots and some guns, hand grenades and holy books.

It's a terrible situation Pam. Really sad and scary that it could happen here. I was commenting on some of the suggestions that have been made on here that won't do any good at all and will cost British lives as well as add to suffering elsewhere. I don't have a solution in my back pocket. That's because it's a complex problem involving ideologies. The last thing you need is impulsive action driven by fear, pain and rage. Let's just hope that in the immediate moment careful decisions are made to save as many hostages as possible.

People have confirmed that the gunmen are not attempting to hide their faces, they are suicide gunmen, they know they are going to kill hundreds and will not come out alive

People understandably say no wonder the Palestinians have been radicalised after what the Israelis have done to them. The same applies to many of the people in Syria, Iraq, Libya, Afghanistan, Algeria etc after what the West has done to them. Sending bombers, troops, removing their leaders and trying to impose political solutions on them that they simply don't understand or buy into. So I certainly agree with you there.

Agreed. But the Syrian people are the victims. Most of them don't want Isis. They're impoverished, killed and raped by a nihilistic cult. It would be a mistake for us to think that Syria is a hotbed of support. All Isis needs is for one man in 10 to agree with their views and they have the manpower they need.

CNN: A reporter inside the hall sayings it's a blood bath in there people hiding and texting no police visible shocking this.

Correct OB1, I know for sure that our intelligence services have taken on huge numbers of people in technology areas.

It's alway the innocents who are the victims unfortunately. I'm sure the majority of Israelis and Palestinians would prefer to live in peace and harmony but the nutters on both sides set the agenda.

Did I? What if these people were born in Paris - does that change anything? The 7/7 bombers were all English after all.

I don't think now is the time to be point scoring. Let's just hope the death toll doesn't not get any worse.
