This infatuation with Messi has to be funny to Barcelona fans. I mean imagine Liverpool holding out hope they could get Silva off us? That's how ridiculous this whole thread sounds.

Ask yourself, why would the best player in the world leave the best club in the world who are currently playing the best football in the world for a lesser club?

It's an amusing thread though.
A lesser club eh? Why not go and support them then and leave us all in peace?

Honestly, for factors including age and money, I would genuinely pass on Messi. I'd prefer us to raise the next messi from our academy.

Of course we are a lesser club in stature. Barcelona are one of the biggest clubs in the world, with one of the biggest stadiums, in one of the most beautiful cities.

We only stand a chance of signin Messi if Barca are forced to sell due to their financies. Then messi might fancy playing in the prem and with his best mate aguero and happy days.

Being honest that it would be a step down in the short term doesn't make you less a supporter of city.

Messi is the greatest player to ever grace the sport. Signing him would propel us to the stratosphere.

I just feel the financial outlay would outweigh the rewards on the pitch as he enters his 30s whilst adapting to a new league in a new country.

Call me crazy, but I'm out.

Disclaimer: I reserve the right to still go mental if we did sign him.

Sorry, but I didn't like the condescending tone of the post and responded thus. In addition:
messi may well want to challenge himself in a new league - that's not a step down
He also might actually want to be part of the most exciting football project on the planet again not a step down

he may well not come, but I don't agree with the ickle city vs majestic Barcelona argument.

when the new TV deal comes into play wages are going to go fucking mental, imagine messi chatting to bog brush and finding out bog brush earns twice as much at him, who wouldn't , and city are the best club to come to.

No you're not allowed, point A makes point B null and void ;-)

Anyhow, Messi's not the only player we're currently interested at Barca, it's time to test the Catalan water

Sorry mate but if you don't think Barcelona to City is a step down then you're deluded. Barcelona won the treble last season. The second time in Messi's lifetime. We haven't even got into the last eight of the CLs.

No doubt we are the most exciting project out there and by far the most attractive option in the prem, should Messi want to test himself in a different league, and of course we can probably match or better his wages but we aren't the level of Barca just yet.

It's the step down I have a problem with. Sure Barcelona are more successful over the last few years and have beaten us when we face them. So what. It certainly wouldn't be a step down financially. Give us another year and we will be a bigger club commercially as well. Barcelona won the lottery with Messi, they wouldn't have won nearly as much without him. I'm not deluded, just looking to the future rather than the past and in tune with the ambitions of our owners.

From one passing post you've determined I have an infatuation with Messi? The whole thread is about the potential of whether Messi would ever leave to another European club, with continual speculation and sources in the game saying he's listened to three premier league clubs.

Unless you have been the best player in the world at the best club in the world your opinion holds no more value than anyone else's on the thread. Even if theoretically you had been, you can't assume the personality and desires of Messi. People are motivated by different things. Personally I'm not sure I would want to spend my whole playing career winning the same trophies, playing the same usual teams over and over.

Maybe he'd like to be a part of the biggest project the footballing world has ever seen..."MAYBE"
He has nothing left to prove in Spain, nothing,a challenge in a tougher league may appeal to him with a possible offer of playing for another team in the group at a later stage.
The infatuation is with people like yourself with the old "Messi will never leave barca"bullshit.
I'll bet your one of the ones that when we bid for a player and barca or Madrid get linked, you automatically say "let's walk away"........open your eyes, shit is changing, very quickly.

It comes down to this for me. If City has the opportunity to buy Messi and he wants to come. You pull that trigger as fast as you can. It has much less to do with what he brings on the pitch than the impact off of it. Sure he's not a 22 year wonderkid any longer, but if you can get the greatest player to ever lace up a pair of boots, you get it. The global ramifications would be massive. It would take City from being a big Premier League club to being in the discussion as one of the biggest clubs in the world on name alone. The money and prestige he would make for the club would dwarf any signing ever. Add in that it would strip away one of the cornerstones of Barca and it gets even sweeter.

I wasn't talking specifically about you. Just the general " we are getting Messi" view. Never claimed my opinion held more value. I was simply bemused.
