I suspect it would be a bit of both. As happens with Rooney, he'd get some commercial income through the club for joint deals and some outside.Yeah,PB...but what I'm saying is,rather than a sponsor/partner up the deal with city,if they gave him a personal sponsorship, they get him endorsing their product,he gets his money,we get the player and there's fuck all on our books, bar the fee and an average wage...no?

I know it's feasible as I'm led to believe it's all been sorted out and signed off in Abu Dhabi. I suspect FFP has got in the way so far, as well as Messi's tax issues. Is it feasible in your opinion?

But we're free of the FFP restrictions now and in the 2016/17 financial year (which is the first one that would be impacted if he signed this summer) we should be reporting substantial profits. We could probably absorb his purchase even if we didn't bring in an extra penny. But we would bring in extra revenue of course.
Bloody shame he won't leave barca then PB, typical city, lolI know it's feasible as I'm led to believe it's all been sorted out and signed off in Abu Dhabi. I suspect FFP has got in the way so far, as well as Messi's tax issues.

No one can force him. That's the last hurdle we need to jump. Everything else is in place.Bloody shame he won't leave barca then PB, typical city, lol
Even if signing Messi is feasible, I feel like we are forgetting one important issue. Why would he want to move from Barcelona to Manchester?I would assume a lot of personal money (signing-on fee/agents/dad/the true cost of his weekly wage) could be offset by a one-off, up-front payment, outside of Manchester City.
The push of one button is really all it would take.
Even if we promised to pay him £1m a week in wages, as long as the figure on City's books is commensurate with what he earns already, nobody would be any the wiser.
Perfectly legal, as long as the Messi family remember to pay their own private tax affairs.

That should seal the deal.Gregg's mate I heard he loves the cheese & onion pasties :-)
He has won everything there is, is already a legend there, the tax stuff over there might have taken a toll on him, and he can't go outside for a stroll without being jumped by supporters.Even if signing Messi is feasible, I feel like we are forgetting one important issue. Barcelona are being pushed to the absolute limit of their finances as they fight to keep Lionel Messi and Neymar from the clutches of the Premier League.
The club are determined to hold on to their biggest assets despite interest from Manchester City and Manchester United, but they will have to speed through the sale of naming rights for the Nou Camp and drastically reduce their transfer budget to do so.
This infatuation with Messi has to be funny to Barcelona fans. I mean imagine Liverpool holding out hope they could get Silva off us? That's how ridiculous this whole thread sounds. It's this summer or never for Messi to City I reckon, due to his age. What a time to do so as well with so much global interest at the door.
