just posted this in other thread about the same ,...

they cant buy or sell , but surely this will cause the greedy agents and players to find loop hole ie its not the players fault so barca and player cancel contract by mutual consent ..human rights and all that jazz.... so player gets released , losing loyalty payments etc but earns massive amounts for the "free " transfer himself ie messi would cost us say 200mil before this.. most of it going to barca , now prob same fee but all to him and agent etc .. all barca would get is a saving on wages and paying out loyalty fees?

You're missing three important points:

1 - to terminate a contract you have to pay your club the full amount of the remaining wages they would've paid you. That alone would bankrupt Messi.
2 - even if someone managed to end their contract, FIFA have to approve all signings where the player is entering a club in a different country. They wouldn't like their rules being flounted and would not say yes. You could take FIFA to court in response but the case would last years and until it was resolved, Msssi would be in limbo, legally not allowed to play for any club.
3 - Mess I doesn't want to leave Barca.

It's just never going to happen. The sooner people accept it, the sooner we stop looking like idiots for believing it might.

Can see this going the way of Chelsea's transfer ban

Can I point out from FIFA themselves...

23 Transfer ban
A transfer ban prevents a club from registering any player during the period in
question.

So we could still sign Messi if he wanted to come.

Thanks JMW :)

The Daily Mail article reads as though the ban applies only to signings, and not the selling of players as well. Surely they can't ban player sales as that would be a restriction on that individuals ability to work, through no fault of their own, whereas signings punishes the club as intended ?

If so, this could be the ideal time to sign Messi, as Barca could hide behind the excuse of wanting to reinvest into their squad the transfer fee received, but are unable to do so due to the ban. Instead they trouser the fee which handily can be used towards the cost of the redevelopments they are planning.
Unfortunately, the ban could put Messi in a bad light as he would surely be seen as leaving them in the shit with no replacement options, should he decide to leave.

Why would Barca let Messi go when they are unable to replace him until 2015?

They have Neymar, Sanchez, Pedro, Tello etc and could use Deulofeu, Rafinha, Denis Suarez - they also have the option of playing Iniesta wide, with Cesc, Xavi and Buscuits in the middle
