Howard Webb

Like someone else already mentioned, what's the point of a camera that never lies if the person looking at it lies. Like Webb and the Aguero pen and Stelling and the sky panel with the Sterling one.
Phil thompson said it was a pen on the review earlier. All over sky this morning its been a pen and no one can believe it wasnt given, even Dermot Gallagher did a special on it saying what a shockin decision.

That doesn't change my point about Webb, who even after seeing the Aguero one in slow motion from every available angle still maintained it wasn't a pen. The excuse he gave was that Aguero's fall was exaggerated and his arm movements unnatural. Yet a couple of weeks later he was saying that the pen the rags won when Depay leapt into the air clutching both legs after a slight tap on his shin was nailed on. Similar situations but with less dramatics from Aguero, and Webb had a totally different opinion on them both.
If the officials have their own agenda, whether it's a personal bias or they are just out and out corrupt, then having a video ref won't make a blind bit of difference.

Dermot Gallagher is ok. But both Webb and Poll's comments are hugely influenced by who the ref is. Whether or not he's one of their mates. Poll, in particular, will totally contradict himself from one game to the next depending on who the ref is.

Webb doesn't give a true opinion he just tries to justify the refs decision (who will probably be his ex colleague and mate)

Take the rags pen at Newcastle. All the pundits reaction ranged from very soft to incredibly harsh but Webb said it was a definite pen. He talks shite

Even if your fears are realized I see no reason not to introduce video based decisions. Rugby has proved that it's at no cost to flow of the game.

Dealing with amateurish officials is something that needs to be addressed in parallel.

@prestwich blue,
You said earlier that there was a dodgy match where someone was a late replacement for Andre Marriner & last night the Swansea v Sunderland match had a ref who was a late replacement for.....Andre Marriner!! I'm glad Sunderland won that match but apparently there were 2 dodgy goals that could have been offside?

I am just making an observation, nothing else.

Rugby decisions are made when play has stopped anyway. If a try has/hasn't been scored is immaterial to play stopping. NFL is the same. This is the difference - it's fine for goalline tech which a computer can judge.
The contentious football decisions are all about judgement - we've seen offsides 'claimed' by pundits by stopping a frame earlier or later.

Regardless of whether it interrupts the flow, do you trust Sky/BT? Because they're the ones who will be choosing which angles to provide to the review ref!

Marriner is reported to have been ill. If he was ill on Saturday, it's not unreasonable for him to pull out of the Wednesday match as well.

It might but but £300k's worth? When you factor in that the Liverpool goalie let a corner float over his head into the net and said goalie's agent is Key Sports Management, which is owned by John Colquhoun. And that Colquhoun's mate is referee Jon Moss, who was a late replacement for Andre Marriner in the rags cup tie. And someone also put £300k on the rags via Betfair (Betfair wasn't specified for the Liverpool bet but it was for the rags bet).

Now also factor in that in the last 3 seasons, plus the current one so far, the rags league record is P135 W 76 D29 L30. In the last 11 games that Moss has refereed involving them, their record is P11 W10 D1 L0, when statistically you'd expect something like P11 W6 D2 L3. So statistically Moss has been woth 11 points to them in tose 11 games.

And that, with Moss in charge, they got a penalty in the last minute that was far less obvious than ours last night and, had it been us and not given, all the pundits would have said "Well he went down a bit theatrically so you can see why he hasn't given it".

But if you choose to believe that someone punted £300k on a match outcome because a few kids were playing (against a League 2 side) then that's your prerogative.
The research you put into any number related topic is excellent .This is very interesting .

In this match there was also an incorrect penalty when a guy tripped himself up and a sending off that non of the pundits agreed with, in fact one of them said it was not even a foul. Refs are either incompetent or bent, neither option is very good for us paying fans.

webbs opinion counts for absolutely fuck all after his abject performance in the world cup final showed him to be totally out of his depth.
and yet hes allowed to be a mouthpiece on tv, its a pisstake, how can anyone take him seriously

Then again, you do what they do in rugby when the services of the video ref are required, and you show his deliberations on a giant screen in the ground. That way he has to have a little think about his own credibility

And the paying public get to see the 'infringement' from every possible angle so there be no shite about not being 100%! We will see the daylight between attacker and defender when pens are given at the drop of a hat, and the clattering players like Sterling get!

When the technical director for referees comes out with the old 'hands in an unnatural position' line then we are in trouble. Im sick of hearing that shite from pundits etc; the law is straightforward, deliberate handball.

The change in refereeing decisions before and after the 6-1 at the swamp proved corruption to me, the clubs statement through Vieira proved the club believed the same.

Scudamore's comments about a successful scum team benefitting the Premier League but needing to balance it out with putting on a competition should have seen that **** hung, drawn and quartered - corrupt twat!!!

I'd love to see this sort of openness in football but I doubt we will ever see it.

And that is exactly what caused ADUG to take action. It's quite likely we would not have had the Agueroooooo!!!!! moment if they hadn't. Time to do so again methinks.
