Player Thread: Patrick Roberts

Never heard of an eighteen month loan. I hope we have a clause that can get him back if needed.
They have CL qualifiers in July so a 6 month loan is of no use to them, so why not make it until the end of next season. He's no where close to being ready for us and they'll look after him up here and bring him on development wise.

Haven't we got someone on a 2 year loan? Unal maybe?

Edit: yes it's Enes Unal. Because of work permit issues I think though.

We must be using Celtic as some kind of expenses fiddle or tax break.

Really perplexing that we need to buy players for circa £12m and then EDS/Loan them for around 24 months before they might be OK for our 1st team. It's a big gamble at that initial outlay, as if Roberts flops at Celtic we won't get half that money back.

It would be if we'd paid anything like £12m as an initial outlay - take the 1 off and you'll be closer to what we have paid fulham.

we paid £6m and £5m are due in add ons IF he makes it with us.

Not a bad idea, he looks nowhere near first team level yet and a long loan can give him a real chance to get his feet under the table and find his best form. A short loan doesn't give a whole lot of incentive for managers to stick with them if the going gets tough. Hopefully there is an option to bring him back if things change, and I imagine there will be for a deal of that length.

I hope that vile club are paying all his wages.

Disappointed.

He's the young player I'm most excited about and he could more than challenge for a spot in PL team. Especially when you see the likes of Townsend going to Newcastle.

Celtic are shite and the SPL is wank, bad move imo. 6 months in the PL is better than 18 months in Scotland.

But as you well know (or should) we haven't paid £12m for him.

And you base that observation off what exactly? His performances in the EDS?

His performances here, at Fulham, at his international level.

If he can go to Celtic it's not unfeasible he could play for a botton half PL team, especially with the strength, or lack of, of teams this season.

But his names not Iheanacho so you're not allowed to big him up on what is perceived as little evidence.

I think the disappointing thing about this loan is the length, because we hoped he'd be good enough for the 1st team by then, espeically with Guardiola's reputation for youth players.

Would anyone seriously be complaining if it was only until the summer?

So really it comes down to if we've got the option to break it at any point.

It's hard to tell where his level is at when he only plays EDS football, kids v kids isn't ever going to improve or test the lad. He was highly rated and thought of at Fulham, recently Brooking was in love too.

Not a fan of loaning our players to Celtic, the league is dire, it's league 1 standard. Surely we could of sent him to a decent championship team instead? Can see him doing well up there but after spending 18 months there the step up to come back to our team and play in the premier league is huge, If he's as good as we all hope he is there's a slight danger he'll find it too easy and won't push on as much as we would want.
