EU referendum deal (title edited)

I'm not sure the 10 Billion number that is being bandied about i not a very sound figure and I don't think anything like that much will be the net result for the Chancellor. A lot of that money is never the UK's to start with.

About 3.5 billion is from import dutes etc on goods that are imported in to the EU through British ports. That money would not be available if the UK were to leave the EU/EEA. At the moment the UK gets to keep 25% of these duties (=1.17 billon & 75% = 3.5b goes to the EU) which are not shown in the EU to-and-fro. I suspect only a small portion of that 4.6 billion would stay in the UK.

There will be no free trade agreement between the EEA and the UK. That has been stated clearly from the start. There is no "Norway" option for the UK. Out is Out.
In the Guradian piece linked earlier it says "Michael B Froman, the United States trade representative, said last year that no free trade agreement would exist with Britain if it left the EU, and the US would have no interest in negotiating one."

So that is two major trading blocks with restricted import/export if the UK were to leave the EU.

The two largest imports by value from the EEA are oil and food - both pretty important. What does the UK have that is so important to the EU?

If the UK were to leave suffer huge economic crisis and be forced to re-apply to join
- there would be no rebate and
- it would ahve to join the Euro, as all states taht join the EU have to now.

Unfortunately this is what I think will happen.

There would also be a significant cost in changing our regulations after exit. It is not just a case of walking out of the door.

In that in between time, many EU laws would have direct affect. This means that derogations easing the impact of EU Directives on the UK will be negated. In the short term the risk is that some of the EU laws some people on here seem to dislike would have a bigger impact on us.

You understand that the EU has a massive trade surplus with the UK don't you?

That's because people love BMW and Mercedes cars, Armani clothes etc! People will still buy these goods but will have to pay extra taxes on them like I said!

I'm surprised Cameron is prepared to go for it as early as this June, I was expecting him to stall for time until the last possible moment... it makes you wonder what they know about what lies in wait for the UK economy in 2017.

Are you saying being out of the EU will not still allow freedom of movement?

There are several EEA countries like Iceland and Norway not in the EU and Switzerland, not in either who follow EU freedom of movement rules. I bet we will too.
I don't disagree, I'm sure there'll be an agreement but that wasn't what you said. You said the FA will have to abide by UEFA rules. Nobody knows how it will work if we vote to come out. The Germans and French might veto our request to join the EEA that allows free movement of workers. Being in the EU gives automatic EEA rights, but leaving it then the UK would have to re apply to join it, I guess.

Well if they want them and can afford them what's the problem?

More than likely we won't buy so many, they'll get pissed off and reduce the prices to increase or maintain market share, then pressure their governments (or do I mean the EU) to ditch the taxes.

If the EU decides to start a trade war with the UK, I'm sure the people of Britain will develop a taste for Toyota and Ford cars, Australian wine, etc, if European goods become much more expensive and European countries are seen as being anti Britain. This would plunge the Eurozone into recession.

I agree we will continue to buy them.

As Gove said, we are the fifth biggest economy in the world and plenty of people have a hot a few bob. They may have a bit less in future if works rights are removed following the possible EU exit though!

It won't be a trade war. We will just have the same deal as Countries outside the free trade agreement.

People have grown to love these products so tastes won't change anytime soon.

Volkswagen wont exist but the others will they will just be selling cars to uber and google rather than you and I

Maybe so.

Equally, there is chance that people will grow to despise Uber and wish for the better quality services they would have got in years gone by from Hackney Carriages (remotely controlled or not in the future!)

You understand that this would be massively to the disadvantage of EU countries? Their goods would be much more expensive and they run the risk of severely pissing off one of their most important export markets.

Or they could just make more money from us and laugh all the way to the bank. Australian or Nigerian Champagbe just doesn't quite do it!
