John Stones

No one is saying Denayer will not get a go, but if we have two central defenders leaving they should be replaced in the squad.
Why do 2 have to leave? Mangala is good enough to be a back up centre back, Otamendi will prosper in a less chaotic team.

I'd rather we buy 3 central midfielders and 2 full backs before spending 40 million on another, erratic centre-back.

I do struggle to see what all the fuss is about.
Vastly overrated and vastly overpriced player.
Same as Ross Barclay.

stones is shit i hope we dont spunk all that money on him or else it would be 3 straight seasons of buying over price defenders
He's not shit, i can see why he'd be attractive to Txiki and Pep, very comfortable on the ball, quite quick and composed, versatile still young and receptive to new ideas and he has put in some good, purely defensive performances. He's off form at the moment, along with most of the Everton team. There is a lot of potential there, and anyone can look shit under certain circumstances. I just don't think we need him for next season, especially given how much other areas need to be improved.

At the moment i think we have 1 central midfielder who can cut it next season, and he's 30.

is that the reason why he makes so many mistakes that leads to goals

Partially yes, what young player doesn't make mistakes? Obviously he's encouraged to play that way by Martinez. He's got the ability to do it, that's why we seem to be after him. Just inconsistent at the moment and prone to making some bad decisions. Doesn't mean he's shit, or worth 40 million, probably a middle ground somewhere in there.

Middle ground? On bluemoon?

Are you new?

He's definitely not shit - though it seems we've got a fair few top professionals posting on here these days with the amount of players deemed shit.
He'd cost way too much and it'd be a gamble but there's a player in there who if coached properly could kick on and play for club and country for the next decade.
If we're looking at bringing in an English contingent to go with Sterling, Hart and the recent link to Oxlade- chamberlain then I can see why we'd be interested but if not I'd take Laporte ahead of him all day long.

His attitude is also a cause for concern. This season it looks like he thinks he's better than everyone else. That gesture to the fans when he was fucking about in the 6-yard box comes to mind

Could be the biggest mistake we ever make if we don't move for this lad this summer.

Absolute world class potential stamped right through him. Let him make his mistakes here, pay whatever it takes, and cherish what he can become, having had Pep take him on.

Not sure I agree with him being the biggest mistake we'd make or for us to pay whatever it takes for him but there's definitely a player in there.

He's not good enough and his attitude stinks. No thanks

Do you know him, though?

I know a couple of people at Everton and he's about as down to earth as they come, an absolutely smashing trainer and very good family.

He's an absolute Rolls Royce of a player, and can't believe people can't see it even now.

They said the same about Rio, cocky bastard, liked to fancy himself as a baller, played himself into trouble.

I would like to think the great Alan Hansen knows a thing or two about defenders and he is also on record saying he's about the closest thing he's seen to him in current day.
