Yaya

Who was supporting Aguero last night. Aguero played well, but was totally isolated and frequently dropped deep to collect the ball.

This is all a knock-on effect of playing Toure. There was a time when he was able to surge up in support of the forward and create havoc in the penalty area.

He's looked knackered recently. He hasn't been able to do his pressing game, he needs a rest after the Derby.

The powers that be thought 4 central midfielders was enough in the squad for a team that often plays 3 at a time. Huge mistake, even before Delph turned out to be injury prone.

Thought YaYA had a very good game last night ,with some real driving runs.Lets hope he works on his free kicks before Sunday though

Exactly, and Yaya's lack of energy is the biggest myth going. Rinse and repeat bullshit spouted by the same people who don't understand the system he is playing in.

The system he's playing in, the system where he's told to close down men 2 seconds after they've played the ball, that system arrrggggghhhh I get it now. My bad.

It's a knock on effect of playing a disciplined containment game, nothing to do with Toure.

That's been the biggest let down, it seems like 2013-14 was just a freak season in terms of Yaya scoring from free kicks.

When did you last see any of our central midfielders getting into the box for a tap in from open play? We don't get central midfielders into the box enough, we don't have the energy to do it unless Fernandinho is deployed further forward. Accommodating Yaya means Dinho has to sit and hold the majority of the time.

You need to look where the defensive line starts and the gaps between midfield and attack, it's nothing to do with accommodating yaya, he's the only fecking player who can come short due to 'capabilities' within the team... You can bang the yaya drum, however, the echo doesn't reinforce the point, it's mute!!!!

Yeah perhaps. I'm just thinking in terms of quality in possession, only Yaya is a good fit to play centrally, unless either Fern or Delph show us something none of us knew they had in terms of ability with the ball. Fernandinho could be effective in a Pep system but i do seem him being shunted away from the central areas.

It's an interesting discussion about him possibly playing as the deepest midfielder a la Alonso, Pirlo etc. We've tried it a couple of times this season, but never really given it a proper run.

In terms of his abilities (both strengths and weaknesses), I think it's a role to which he'd probably be well suited. Obviously it would, as Neville Kneville said, need us to be more compact, but we know we will be once Guardiola arrives. The issue would more probably be a mental one, in terms of both whether he is tactically disciplined enough to do the job, and whether he is prepared to play a role that can often be quite selfless - I wonder whether he might just be a bit too self-involved to do so?
Shame if he is, because knucking down and excelling in that role under Guardiola could just extend his career at the top level by a couple of years - if he decides to move on/we decide to move him on, I can't really see any of the top sides going for him, and he might well end up playing in the US or China (something which he could still do two or three years down the line).

Yaya will always divide opinions mostly because of his agent but at the end of the day he is a fantastic player who simply cannot be replaced..

Used the right way, he has 2 more seasons in him, although he would need to get fitter..

He seemed very motivated last night, maybe he has been told something ?

Yaya coming short is clearly working for us isn't it? The fact he needs a babysitter in Fernandinho, Fernando or both because he can't be trusted defensively means Aguero is constantly left isolated.

The odd spectacular goals are great but tap ins count just the same. Playing Yaya means you wont get central midfielders in the box, it's there for everyone to see every single fucking week.

He's played well in the Kiev away leg, in the FL Cup final, against Villa and last night.

Christ almighty, have you seen us without him???? Case dismissed...
