Truth is all the players looked knackered last night and Yaya would've probably been no help. It was unfortunate that we got to play Liverpool last night as we were perfect fodder for Klopps energetic and new look side. Given the age of our players and lack of quality on our bench (strongest squad my arse) it was on the cards I suppose although it still disappointing to witness such a weak performance.

We saw (again) last night why our midfield without Toure isn't fit for purpose, and why Guardiola will probably buy three or four centre midfield players in the summer.

The tragic thing is just how much we missed a player who has been everyone's favourite scapegoat for most of the season. It's very telling and it show that for all his faults, the reason that he keeps getting picked and the reason that Pellegrini keeps picking him, is that his technical quality is simply in a different league to most of the rest of our midfield and without him our forward players look like isolated magnets on a tactical whiteboard.

I don't think Pepe will be given enough money to make such overhaul.
Decent players who could be a real upgrade over the two Ferns are nowdays valued at least arround £40m;
you are implying we would spend £120m on midfielders alone without even knowing how much we could cash in with the sails of the two brazillians and Yaya.
We will still need to sign a decent left & right back, a replacement for Demichelis, and upgrade up-front over Bony/Ihenacho.
More realistically, Pep will keep Fernandinho and will sign a high profile versatile midfielder ( maybe Pogba or Vidal ).

you are implying we would spend £120m on midfielders alone without even knowing how much we could cash in with the sails of the two brazillians and Yaya.
We will still need to sign a decent left & right back, a replacement for Demichelis, and upgrade up-front over Bony/Ihenacho.
More realistically, Pep will keep Fernandinho and will sign a high profile versatile midfielder ( maybe Pogba or Vidal ).

I doubt he would be coming if there was no assurances about a huge transfer kitty being available

Yup, a perfect summation Billy. And not just technical quality, but sheer power as well. We have somehow acquired a selection of small, non-tackling lightweights in midfield, who are easily bullied off the ball. The dippers couldn't do that to Ya Ya on Sunday, and nor could they prevent Fernandinho then tucking in to his right to snuff the threat of Coutinho out. Without him last night it was a fucking car crash with vast gaps between Silva, Kun and our two 8 stone touchline huggers.

Unfortunately our midfield is just as bad if not even more vulnerable with him.

Just to clarify, are you saying that without yaya toure our midfield is the worst in the premier league? or have I totally misunderstood

Unfortunately our midfield is just as bad if not even more vulnerable with him.

Maybe defensively more vulnerable but going forward we are toothless without him.
