Yaya

We saw (again) last night why our midfield without Toure isn't fit for purpose, and why Guardiola will probably buy three or four centre midfield players in the summer.

The tragic thing is just how much we missed a player who has been everyone's favourite scapegoat for most of the season. It's very telling and it show that for all his faults, the reason that he keeps getting picked and the reason that Pellegrini keeps picking him, is that his technical quality is simply in a different league to most of the rest of our midfield and without him our forward players look like isolated magnets on a tactical whiteboard.

Aint that the truth.

Still his cake wasn't big enough 2 summers ago, and his agent is a knob, hang him.

Don't get me wrong mate, I think Toure is as big a bellend as his agent. However our reliance on him to do good things on the pitch almost since he walked into the side cannot ever be overstated. Without Yaya we have often been a nothing side with seemingly no midfield quality or identity. This isn't about just this season, but the seasons before too.

For whatever reason we have simply not addressed this in any meaningful way since he was signed. I keep saying it but I will be staggered if we don't sign at least three centre mids this summer. We need them, especially if Toure's going, and frankly if Pep watched that last night he will probably be wondering if he should keep Toure another season just to be safe!

If we can keep the same group of 16/17 players fit until the end of the season then we absolutely stand a chance of fighting for the league again. Yaya has to be one of those players.

It'll be an interesting summer for sure, and I do think Pep will keep Yaya around if he can. I'm not particular bothered by his gobshite agent, and he himself doesn't help himself, but the player is very difficult to replace.

He was the sole cause of our shiteness 2 weeks ago according to this place, yet its clear from the 2 games he's missed recently, just how difficult his presence is going to be to replace. Delph certainly isn't the answer.....

If I were Pep, I'd rather ditch all the other central midfielders than Toure and bring in a new set; so long as Yaya is prepared to accept he may spend a lot more time on the bench. However, surround him with pace and quality and I reckon he could spend a season in the Xavi role.

None of them has shown themselves to be the answer; the best bet of the current crop might be Nasri.

Has there ever been a player who can excite and frustrate as much as Yaya? But despite his critics( I confess to sometime belonging to this group) he has been central to our cause in recent years. Talk about only missing someone when they are not there. Our trophy cabinet would be a lot more bear without him. While his off field antics have left a lot to be desired only an idiot (sadly there have been many on here) can doubt his contribution on the pitch. Unless a big offer comes in from China expect to see him still wearing the blue shirt next season.
