Ticket Collection Paris

I'd be interested to know what his definition of a "drunken idiot" is. If it's one of the gimps that was chucking coins at the Barca fans below then fair enough, that kind of behaviour is bang out of order. But if it's anyone who had the tenacity to have a good time with their mates with a bit of high jinks thrown in, have one over the eight, and stumble back to their hotel in the early hours of the morning pissed but happy then I suggest he finds another sport to follow. Because as someone who was at last years Barca away game but not the previous one, from what I heard of the first Barca away match it was more raucous than the second one with literally thousands of pissed up blues falling out of bars and generally enjoying themselves. Along with some well known former players!

Let me clear up a few things. I went to both Barca matches. The first was brilliant and I was one of the drunks having a great time. Last Wednesday I was in a Parisian kebab shop at 2am after having a great afternoon and evening so I have no problem with any Blue that wants plenty of beer, wants to sing fall out of bars and generally go daft as I am one of them, I have done it for years and at 58 will hopefully do it for a few more, City and drink go together. The second Barca match has in some respects clouded my view about Blues on tour. Before the match there were plenty of Blues drinking but there seemed to be quite a few idiots as well, far more than the first time. For the entire match I saw items coming over my head and over the netting hitting Barca fans, then as I watched the match in my eye line a saw something large fly in the same direction and hit an elderly spanish man on the back of the head. I don't know what it was but it split his head open and there was a fair amount of blood. I will be straight it upset/angered me, that could have been my Dad/Grandad. If shits want to fight each other fine but only a cowardly knob throws something into a crowd knowing it will cause injury and only scum throw things not caring who it hits and injures. If having to go to a hotel to collect YOUR ticket helps stop that then I am all in favour. Collecting my ticket left me plenty of time to have loads of beer before and after the match.

Thanks for the clarification mate and I'm in agreement - I just wasn't sure whether you were grouping your average blue who likes a drink and a good time with the object throwing idiots at the Nou Camp. I too wasn't particularly enamoured with their behaviour and it put a dampener on what was a decent trip.

I'm not convinced this ticket collection arrangement will eradicate all those knobheads from our away support in Europe though - for all we know, some of them may have got a ticket using their own seasoncards and in any case I didn't see any attempt from the local police to apprehend the offenders so they probably think they can get away with that behaviour in future.

You should have flown with Thomson I guess.

Look it is the way it is and you should just get used to it. High ticket prices, being farmed like cattle, 16 stops to get your ticket. This is the price you pay for supporting a big club ( or so people keep telling me)
Big club?!? I'd be more inclined to say 'massive'.

My old man had a twat of a time over there. His mate had booked but then couldn't go due to being in hospital so my Dad travelled alone and a ticket was wasted. Surely with the same surname, it should have been possible for me to attend but the rules allow zero flexibility.

The times, they are a-changing.

I missed the game despite Thomson reps having spares I was told. That said my lad would never have got in if not for the collection system but as you say some flexibility would be appreciated.ie if any unclaimed they can be bought by fans there who show no purchase has been made and are a seasoncard holder maybe?

That's far too sensible.
It seems they would rather have unclaimed tickets go to waste rather than having a few blues who made the trip over in the ground.

When we collected our tickets we asked what was the possibilty of there been any later on for any no shows (Two of our party had no tickets). Informed they couldnt do anything if even if any were available. I think for this game only as it was the first time collection was introduced (Kiev different as introduced due to low price and buying for points) they could have had a list and lets say a 30 min or so window for last minute availability. Plenty as normal had booked travel and hotel first before price goes up then worry about ticket. Secondally surely other photo ID should be able to be used. Would happily show my driving licence and potentially lose it rather than have my passport on me all day and stuck in France trying to replace it

As far as I understand, the club had to submit a list of fans attending to both the French and British Police. To add to this list at last minute would be impossible as there would be no time for the police to run their security checks

in Barca i went over to the idiots and told them if i see another coin thrown i'd throw them. Everyone likes to go out and have a laugh and get pissed but we dont need knobs like that.

The Thompson rep on our coach said their were 15 places not filled

What other section in society allows itself to be treated with such utter contempt by the authorities?
No way would opera goers, gig goers, people going about their daily business (at airports apart) be treated this way.
There is more crime committed in Asda on Alan Turing Way than there is at a game, yet people aren't searched, herded around, treated like shit when going to Asda.

I did not have a problem with the collection and have absolutley no problem with City doing it again. There were certainly less kn*bheads around than there were at Barcelona. We went via the Eurostar and got the underground from the train station, it may, as some have said been 16 stops but so what ? It took minutes to walk from the underground to the hotel and we were dealt with quickly whilst inside. Yes it is a bit of hassle but if it means the idiots/the banned/the hooligans that were throwing missiles over the netting at Barcelona causing serious injury are kept away, I am all for it.
I didnt have a problem with any of the City staff inside or the hotel staff, all were polite and efficient.
What little drinking time Iost by having to collect my ticket was made up after the match anyway !
Perfect summary.

I must admit I haven't attended the opera recently, well actually never but I don't think they throw coins/darts/bricks at each other, sadly some of our lot still do. Gig goers do not attack innocent familes walking along the road sadly some of our lot still do. There was a full blown 'cavalry charge' by GMP after the recent Derby because one set of idiots didnt like some people on the other side of the road, it didnt matter whether these people wanted a fight, they were going to be attacked anyway. Also we cannot forget the last home european match when we decided that some Germans shouldnt be sat behind the goal so we attacked them. They spent the rest of the match with a full police corden around them to keep them safe. That is us, don't even start me on the raggies and scousers.
I want to return to 'safe standing' sadly it is never going to happen because there is still an element of knobs that follow football. Even with banning orders and arrests the problem does not go away so sadly we are all treated the same.

No problem at all, got there early weds and was dealt with inside 15mins, we came straight from the Eurostar so we had bags to search as well. Big well done to the Paris police as well, all the ingredients were there for it to turn nasty but all the ones I dealt with were courteous and polite, it's amazing what a well intentioned Bonjour and a smile can do.

Have to say, with all the scare stories about the Paris police and pepper spray etc, it was a totally trouble free trip.
The ticket collection thing we'll have to get used to.
Not sure what good the metal detector was, but was told it was a hotel requirement. Fair do's.

My only issue regards 'security' is I got a Home ticket off a tout 30 mins before kick off, right outside the first cordon.
Had it checked twice, a cursory pat down and into the stadium.
No ID check or anything.
Makes a mockery of the whole thing really.

As a matter on interest how much did you pay? I said I would do face value, think could have got one then thought fuck it and went in a bar with some Blues and PSG fans.

€100
Started at €250 but he knew he was chancing it.
Probably could have got it a bit less if I'd waited longer, but it was a proper paper ticket, with no name on it. It had 'invitation' on the bottom, so was probably a corporate freebie or something.
Decent view. 2nd tier in the corner next to the City fans.
