I actually like the way he runs out with the ball without any fear and is able to be pass it under pressure.

But..the fact is he's a defender and I want our defenders to be able to do that FIRST, hes struggling with the basics of defending and he's making mistakes every game. Laughable if we paid £50m on a defender just because he's good on the ball.
Laporte does something similar at Athletic, it's that comfort on the ball that Pep covets. You can teach the tactics to shore up defensive frailty in 1 week. And within a month of practice, he'd look a part of a seamless machine.

Denayer, Stones Laporte Delph
City's back line. Looks crazy now, in 2 years folks wouldn't remember a time when that wasn't the case. Fans will be shitting their pants when any of them is out.

are u on the wine ?

Can't see Delph at left back at all.

Think Delph will be about 5th choice CM next season and sold in 2017 summer.

Amazing more defenders don't go on your course mate, I guess the tuition fees must be pretty high though if you're turning defensive liabilities into solid defenders in only one week? It sounds like one of those american late night informercials.

If you think Pep would play Delph at left-back......you are insane. This is the guy who likes full-backs like Dani Alves.
And Rafinha. And Adriano. And Abidal. Point here being, the type of fullbacks he has liked have varied a lot depending on circumstance.

Projected by whom?! I hope he's shipped out straight away this summer, not a fan of his at all personally.
I think he can so a decent job at LB. And our lack of interest in fullbacks leads me to make that projection. As a CM, I'd be on the 'get him out' crew too.

But not in that crew if we were trying to convert him into a left back? He will never be good enough for us, I can see us being in for a fullback as opposed to trying to put square pegs in round holes.

I had to look some of it up, but I remember watching the game and thinking how the hell are we interested in him. There had been stories of us signing him earlier that week.. Since then, I've watched him closely and I'd say he's been responsible for well over 20 goals personally! Only this week he was poor for the first 3 Liverpool goals, and for me was at fault for both Rag goals yesterday.... I think people have been blinded by his classy look on the ball, but he's just not a very good defender...!!
You could be right. Looks more like he will play CM in the long run
