The first CGI shows the back of the KOP styled end behind one of the goals.

Something City should look at before extending the North stand.

Even so, I'm not sure that I would agree that it looks like a sterile office building even from the west:

I really don't see how that would be the best in Europe, impressive none the less but even with the shiny renders here, it still looks very grey and sterile overall does it not ?

Got to hand it to those Germans, still the best IMO.

To match demand for a 365-day attraction, a 60,000 larger stadium, more non-footballing events and revitalised economical activity in east Manchester - Manchester City Council have considered opening a station on the railway line next the Regional Athletics Arena to provide further capacity. A new Eastlands Railway Station would sit on the Ashton, Stalybridge and Liverpool Junction Railway - a short line linking Ardwick to Miles Platting. The line is still used by freight but not by passenger services which stopped such services in 1995.

The line would have national connections and link the Etihad Campus to Manchester Victoria and Manchester Piccadilly if the southern junction was rebuilt. A new Eastlands Railway station was discussed as part of theNorthern Hub phase 2 plan in June 2010.[27]

I haven't seen much mentioned here in regards to rail. Any news on the possibility of this?
 
Nothing of note.

But while we're all rightly having a moan, I wonder if our plans have stalled off the pitch as well as on it?

It doesn't look like the North stand expansion is going to begin this Summer, if at all. And the Collar site and Etihad Campus proposals around the stadium seem as far away as ever.

When you consider that amout of construction currently going on in and around the city centre, it's disappointing that our expansion plans and development plans for the land around the Etihad have come to a grinding halt. :-(

If it satisfies your appetite there's a fairground going up on that square patch by Joe mercer way. Either that or gypsies...
 
wish we could just knock ours down and rebuild to make it beautiful, the South Stand roof join is still atrocious, the stadium just looks tacky and not spectacular from the outside.

It's been 8 years now, the UAE can knock up spectacular structures at the drop of a hat yet we get left behind with a roof that doesn't fit properly.

I think the problem is we're converting a 47,000+ stadium into maybe a 77,000+ stadium over a period of 15-20 years. The South Stand is currently too big in relation to the rest of the ground. When we do the North Stand that will similarly look too big in relation to the East and Colin Bell Stands. Only when we expand the two side stands and fill in the corners will the ground look right. The club rightly wants to maximise the final capacity but it will look disjointed for a long time ahead. I'd expect work to start on the North Stand next Summer but further expansion will be a long way down the road. There isn't the demand as yet to go much above 60,000 and I doubt we'd get planning permission until the transport infrastructure is improved.

I did to be fair. A contact at Laing phoned me to ask about the composition of the floor build up on the Colin bell stand as they are doing some modifications to the behind the scenes this summer and I was hearing whispers of a start imminently in the north. However the source today totally contracdiscts that and he stated nothing imminent. The guy today would know. I have to agree with the previous poster we should have knocked it down and started again. My eyes are always drawn to the fucked up roof and the stadium design will always mean it is hard to make it intimidating. The distance between the front row of the second tiers is much too far part for a stadium of this size.

The problem with our stadium has always been that it had to accommodate a running track at ground level for two bloody weeks which will compromise it forever. To do so involved some very clever design and required a distance to be set between the first row of the middle tiers of the East and west stands. Essentially a huge bowl. I would imagine that the distance of the front row of our East and west stands is not that dissimilar to the front rows of club Wembley in what is a stadium holding significantly more. The sightedness are good. Almost too good as the stands are getting further and further back from the pitch. The angle of rake of the new 3rd tier of the south stand would be far more suited to the east and west third timbers also and would make out ground far more intimidating. The people who were the architects on our stadium were not football people in any way shape or form. I spent hours and hours as a fan saying the pitch is too far away from the front row and the seats surely can't be grey! (They were going to be!). It was poorly designed from day one in my opinion and the outside has all aways been ugly and the join externally is horrendous. It is that badly designed it needs posters to cover up the cladding. Used to look out of my portacabin in winter at the grey (before it had any colour) and it looked like it belong in Russia. Sorry to be negative but it should have been knocked down and rebuilt.
 
Someone's been chucking a few bricks about in that land behind the fence/wall....directly behind where the railway line crosses the canal....chucking a right few bricks about they have, trees down, inclines suddenly being bulldozed from memory...the land looking half flattish..you can nearly see the foot of the gasometer, not the one on the car park the one that WAS half buried....n'more half-buried ...did someone once mention that one of the gasometers was to be removed and one to stay
