Failsworth

One of my best mates Mum was a barmaid at the Mare and Foal for years. Margaret Wood.
Also another old family friend, Margaret Twist at the Railway (I believe her daughter is married to Tonys Chippy Tony now).
Our good friends Tom and Gladys ran the Black Horse and the Crown and Cushion (I think it was that one, on Ashton rd).
There used to be a great chippy near the top of Newton rd called Hodgkins (I think). Last time I was over I took the bus up there from town just so the wife could experience true fine dining.
Twatting place was shut down.
I can't no go to Failsworth when I come home. It's in the blood.

Windmill and Nelson are pretty evenly split in regards to blue or red. Nelson is definitely not a rag pub though. All the rags round there go in the Railway on Clayton Bridge or the Eight Bells.

Mare and Foal is a rag pub. Its getting full of idiots now as well.
I live round the corner from the railway and I walk the distance further for The Nelson. Can't stand most of the mongs in there

Hotchins, Phil still lives there, just plays golf now.

The Nelson is a blue pub, The Windmill lease has just been bought by a friend, it's closing for a big refit in summer.

There are two City supporters clubs in Failsworth. The Willow Tavern and Woodhouses at the cricket club or WMC. Both within a five minute walk. The Willow show all games as does The Nelson.

Depending where the OP is renting would depend on his quality of life. The Dean Street area near the met is not so good but that's probably the worst part. Generally anything past Tesco towards Oldham, particularly Tesco side of Oldham Road is good.

That was a great chippy. I used to walk down from Brierly ave instead of going to the chippy that was right there (Hook's, I think, the bloke was a Yank).

Not as good as Fred & Martha's 'The Inn Plaice' on Alder Road/Hibbert Cres. Their chip curry muffins was probably my staple diet for many a year ;)

Willow Tavern is a big City pub and run coaches home and away.
The Streetbridge has a fair few City fans.
There is a few of us meet in The Bay before getting a lift to home matches.
The Mowbray show football, cheap beer, old crowd.
Woodhouses just round the corner from the Willow has the Dog & Partridge and The Woodhouse Gardens both serve cask ale, and have good beer gardens.
Avoid Dutch Birds, and The Sun full of scrotes.
The Crown & Cushion, and the Haughton Arms are Ok. The Millgate is alright but it doesnt show footy very often, and its a Lees pub.

I used to work in Hotchins as a young boy of 16 (1999) top chippy but Phil was a right tight bastard paid me about £6 to do a Friday night 7:30 til 10:30 then dropped me off in his 1960s motor.

I used to nip to the Brookdale for a couple of pints before going to work in the chippy, pissed up serving was definitely the way forward.

Church Inn and Willow are best for a pint. The pubs all used to be hammered at weekends but most of them don't exist anymore. I used to go in the Bricklayers when Billy Grogen had it. They had a brilliant football team in the late nighties early noughties and the goal keeper was a hell of a good looking bastard.

Lordy was an ugly c*nt !! {and still is }.

Im a native of Failsworth and its a great place, the OP will be fine there. Planning a trip home to visit next week to see my old mum, shes not well. I'll be in the Windmill on Tuesday or Wed night

I've heard there are some great massage parlours there, prim and proper, cardigans and all, no shenanigans .

lol that will be a lot of my mates then. I live just off Droylsden Rd.

My family home was (still is really as my old man is still there) Albert Gardens, off Averill St. The Robin Hood was our local for decades .... sadly gone ... Horseshoe opens just when Wardy fancies it, lol, so my old man and couple of mates go in the Nelson now. It was the Railway for a time, but apart from being a rag pub, it went rapidly downhill about ten years or so ago.

I went past that crappy little park on Westminster Road recently (i.e. a couple of years ago) and I was pleasantly surprised to see that they've made it look quite nice. Dunno why they couldn't have done that when I lived there!
