Pep's First Training Session - Video

Barca lost their 1st game under Pep & then drew the next game in 2008 - press was already all over Pep baying for his blood. And the rest is history. As long as fans understand such pathetic media agendas, he will be more relaxed. He just cud not relax at Barca for emotional reasons & madrid press & Bayern coz of their sense of entitlement. Yet he came out with flying colours even in that pressure-cooker! I sense given fan loyalty in england, Pep will be more relaxed and may even do better than his 2 previous stints. Remember, he is STILL very young for a top-level manager & can actually learn & improve!

Already a day ahead of the rags on pre season, whilst Jose is handing out dossiers on the 40 odd youth players he's blooded to the press and trying to re-ignite feuds with Wenger, our manager is setting to work on what he will be implementing for the coming season. City with their collective talent of players now have someone organising them and weeding out the ones that don't want to be there. That should terrify the rest of the league.

I think I heard him shout 'run the lines' a couple of times. He will have introduced them to his concept of dividing the pitch into different areas and channels. Thought it was brilliant to see him. There were one or two players looking a bit bemused though and not everyone will get what he is trying to achieve.
Yep - it's so good to see a completely new energy at the club - hope the players respond as we, the fans have. Good stuff.

You can already see him in the videos and what he is trying to do getting the players to press, press and press.

At one point he gets rid of the ball and starts with another at the other end of the pitch and then he's then shouting at them to put pressure on it.

Don't want to nitpick but 'Bayern did not really convert all of their chances and later in the match you had your comeback.' - the comeback match [Aguero's hat trick] was 14/15 but the game in the video was 13/14. They tore us a new arsehole at our place in October 2013 whereas we beat them December 2013.

Might be me getting confused by the wording, though, so apologies if so!

No. I meant it like this. We should have led in that match much earlier with more than the goal of Ribery in the 7th - and higher. So big were the differences then - and there were very good chances. And especially with the substitutions - so we led with 2 goals in advance - especially of Kirchhoff we got shaky and you had your chances. This match.

And the match in the next season did not really mean anything to Bayern as they were group winner before. We were 10 men after 21 minutes and played with a Höjbjerg-Rode-midfield even if in other parts first teamers played. And Bayern led with 10 men until minute 85. For you it meant more as you got back the chance to get through group stage as second.

Atleast it took them a long time to do it in the way until Mr. Perfection was satisfied - but I think that Pep never was really satisfied.

Training at Bayern started June 24th 2013.
The match against City was October 2nd.

Remember that match? That was 3 months after the training started.
You see that nobody is really running with the ball - and that the one who has the ball has always a player or more available to pass, too. Somewhen the opposition gives up to fight for the ball...

It is not a winning guarantee. Bayern did not really convert all of their chances and later in the match you had your comeback. The problem Bayern somehow had was that they could not always keep that up for 90 minutes.

The head is important, too. Not just the feet. The goal is to always be some steps ahead - knowing already what happens next before you even receive the ball. If you first get the ball and than have to look to who you can pass it to it is easy for the opponent to fight you. The better a team is with their heads the faster and more one touch it can play...

The problem of the EPL is in my eyes that the fans are too much into "hero-football". But a good functioning team with clear structures, an idea and good footballers will always be better than some individuals.

What Pep for sure will enhance is the passing quality - to pass in the right speed into the "good" foot of the fellow player etc.

The game agaisnt Bayern when Sergio scored a hat-trick was an eye opener. We couldn't get anywhere near Bayern and they had ten men. Two fuck ups late on win it for us, but Bayern controlled the game with a player down.

They were excellent that night. We didn't play poorly but they still managed to make it look like they had more men on the pitch.

He wants pressure on the football. A rapid recovery when we lose it. Playing out to the full back as well looking at that.

But more than anything you can come up with tactically, and he's certainly a bit of an innovator in that regard, is passion/commitment and hard work. He delivers that himself in spades so expects the same from his team. His involvement in what they're doing is eye opening. He clearly builds relationships over a period of time. Whichever group of players move forward with him, will be a mold of pep.

I think we finally have the man to bring the absolute max out of the incredible squad we have, but at the same time it's going to be a huge learning curve for him

We'll get a proper understanding of him if he's successful here, because this league is stupidly competitive with 4 or 5 teams, possibly even 6 now, that have the ability to win the thing.

It's great to see some actual gameplay with proper coaching and training. Rather than doing drills over and over and then a short period of actual gameplay, he concentrates on the key aspects. It's so good to see him get involved. Pick the ball up and bark instructions at the players so they know what he expects. Quickly fire a ball in the other direction to force them to react, before switching again.

His drill work will then concentrate on what he sees as weaknesses. You can bet with someone like Sterling for instance, he gets him repeating the same moves over and over until he nails them. He'll have him, Nolito, De Bruyne practice cutting inside and shooting towards the far post etc time and time again so they're confident to do it in the game (De Bruyne does anyway).
