Derby post match thread 10/09/2016

What got me about the commentary amongst other things yesterday was when we scored our first Tyler almost gulped and said in such a low disappointed voice "goal", no doubt if it would have been the other way he would have screamed the place down in that ROOOONEY screeched he does. Likewise a lot was made of the 'long ball' by Kolarov leading to the goal, yet so many times De Gea did the same thing yet he was 'passing' it or trying to 'find' rag players, making it out they weren't using the long ball approach. The same tactic Van Gaal used and was criticised for.

A midfield of Xhaka-Elneny-Cazorla not getting hold of the ball in a premier league game? Thats not even mentioning Ozil and Ramsey.

What drugs are you on mate? City have very good midfielders but don't go on like they're Xavi-Iniesta tika-taka level.

Are they why you totally dominated Southampton yesterday.

Yep. Wasn't holding his position at all, kept following the ball towards our centre halves and not coming back, left Silva and KDB free to double up on bogbrush in acres of space. If they're going to get the best of that lads he needs to be the most advanced of a 3 in midfield, but they can't drop Shrek, so ...

I agree with that last point. There were a couple of points where Pogba did a great job keeping the ball and looked like he could be dangerous if he were much further up the pitch. I don't think he will every justify the price but might have been interesting to watch if used properly. It seems that the Rooney thing means Pogba will not be able to influence a game in the way he might. Long may Rooney stay in their side.

On our performance, that first half was sublime! The way we used the ball was brilliant. Must say Kolarov being in the size gives us an interesting long ball option which will keep teams guessing. When the commentators / pundits were having a go at Mikhitaryn for not closing down toy can see that he is looking over his shoulder as if he had an easy pass was on to Nolito that would have had us running at their defence again. The really difficult things for opposition teams is that toy stand off us and we destroy you, close us down too much and got are out of position and we can destroy you! Beautiful.

That's the exciting thing, he's only scratched the surface on what this squad can do.

Still got Kompany, Sane, Gundogen and the arrival of Jesus in Jan, once the fitness levels are up we'll start to see the real City under Pep unfold before our eyes........

I'll take Silva,Gundogan,Fernandinho and De Bruyne anytime pal.

United fans were even more depressed after the game yesterday than they usually are after getting beat in a derby. The reason being that they actually thought they had a world beating team after the SUPPOSED mega signings. As the first half progressed yesterday the realisation that City were on a completely different level to them must have really hurt. By the end of the game they were actually chuffed and almost celebrating that they were able to compete with us a little in the second half and not look totally outclassed.

I can even sympathise with how they are feeling in a way but I won't get too upset about it???!!. As a City fan, if I had to sit through that first half watching United completely play us off the park then I would be utterly miserable too.

Really? I think he's a fantastic pass and move player.

Had the best passing percentage in the league since january 2016.
Don't really care about passing percentages, Fernando has the best in our team iirc and he's by far and away our least talented footballer in midfield. Elneny just seems to lack speed of thought and judgement whenever I've seen him play. Xhaka looked quality at BMG and Basel but his temper tantrums would seriously worry me and Cazorla is top notch. Wouldn't swap any of the 3 for Silva, KDB, Dinho or Gundogan tbh and Ozil, creative as he is, won't be in central midfield getting involved in battles for possession.

Saying all that, it'll be the toughest midfield battle we'll face domestically this year imo, still it'll be in the CL group where we find out how good we are :)

I was slightly surprised a rag I was talking to last night blamed Blind for KDB's goal. Bailly should have destroyed Kelechi in the air but didn't even challenge. For all the praise he's been getting leading up to the game it's errors like that which I wouldn't expect a 'world class' (as soon as anyone signs for them they get that tag) defender to make.

You're in for a shock mate, you can forget recent games against City because we're a completely different proposition this season. We dominated United yesterday, and we have Aguero, Kompany and Gundogan to come into that team. I honestly believe the penny hasn't dropped yet about how much this squad led by this manager can achieve. I think we'll hammer you when we play you and if that sounds arrogant so be it.
This! By my very nature I'm not arrogant but will not hold back in stating things that are. I really can't see who can live with us in this legue, especially when we are at full strength and we know Peps strategies as second nature!

How many times have you watched Elneny? He's one of our most intelligent central midfielders! Especially compared to Coquelin and Ramsey.
Lol I think you need to watch a bit more of him my friend.
Xhaka does need to tame it occassionally but like you said he provides that quality with his passing, awareness, technique whilst also adding the bite and tenacity which we've lacked at times, he's going to be a top player in this league no doubt.

He was awful yesterday. Wimped out of tackles, out of position most of the time, I was expecting him to be good.

If Otamendi or Stones had let that ball bounce like Blind did I would have put my fist through the fucking wall, that was atrocious defending. You can say Bailly should have won the initial ball but he's not going to win every ball like that over the course of a match, never mind a season and it's up to the other centre back to at least challenge for the second ball and slow the attack down, if they're unable to win it clearly. Blind had 2 choices - put it into safety before KDB got the touch (easy enough, he was favourite for the ball) or if he didn't think that was possible to take him down and defend the free kick afterwards.
