European away games ticketing policy

Just out of interest.

Does anyone know if something similar happens with visiting fans at our ground? Or do they just turn up with a ticket after spending the day in the city centre?
Celtic, Barca, and Arsenal do not have to queue for tickets abroad !

If the Barca game (or any other Euro away) goes to general sale, then there will be no need for checks as anyone who wanted a ticket will have got one.

It is that simple, for the tickets distributed to supporters via loyalty points. I disagree that people can't catch up, I was at or around the top a few years ago, but as has been mentioned already, circumstances change, priorities change. I've missed a few over the last three/four years and if someone catches up/overtakes me, good on them.
I don't have a problem with the ticket collection on the basis of points going to people attending, no one else. I agree it's a pain in the arse to collect the tickets, I've got flights booked for Barcelona, but as my flight lands at 17:40 I'm dithering on buying a ticket through the club, or get one in their end because I'm not sure I will have time to get from the airport to the ground via a ticket collection queue.
Loyalty points aren't the problem - people who think they are forget that those on the top points are those who where at Maine Road every other Saturday morning at 3 to 5am queuing for away tickets in the old second / third division. Every other week. And have been going since. I still see/say hello to people who's name I don't know, but spent hours queuing with, week after week, for years as we produced "XX" number of away stubs from last season (most of which you would only have got at the time having produced "XX" number of stubs from the season before). The day they introduced points, everyone in that queue got their Saturday mornings back - more than once I drove home with tickets, fell asleep in the car on the drive at home, woke up and drove back to Maine Road for the match. I've dropped off, as others have/inevitably will, but whilst they are still doing every game, why shouldn't they get priority?

The problem isn't just those with points passing them on (although the way the away European games have opened up recently it is a problem) it's the what seems to be an ever increasing % of the allocation going elsewhere which just raises the debate on the distribution method we know the most about - ie what is available to normal supporters.
another good post.

2700 tickets to distribute in Glasgow = chaos
4900 tickets to distribute in Barcelona = Utter chaos
Perhaps its a good job, that it wont sell out, due to the crass ticket arrangements from the club.
2 weeks before a match, that they had known about since August 26th
Tickets for all 3 away match's should have been onsale from early September, to allow people to make plans for travel.
Its not rocket science, little Leicester did it .

Maybe little Leicester care about the independent travelling supporter?

Whilst there are pros and cons on a few fronts and invariably everyone favour's the solution that benefits them we have to accept that its here to stay but we have to make it a more streamlined process.
Personally I fall into the category of qualifying for the games, attending the games and ultimately being inconvenienced in collecting it.
Everyone I know and see overseas is the same faces who like me go to every game though clearly there are a few who abuse the system but is it fair to penalise 95% of people for the actions of 5%?
My own personal solution would be you should have a prove yourself period, once you have been to say 5 aways where you are confirmed as being the person who travelled it would seem pretty clear that you are a regular away goer and therefore wouldn't need to fall under the same scrutiny as others. This would then leave less people needing to collect tickets which would benefit them too as smaller queues.
wouldn't even mind if those who had qualified via the 5 game rule then had to provide proof of travel to city prior to leaving by emailing your flight/ferry confirmation to city as ultimately no one is going to fork out the cost of travel just to gain 40 points then pass ticket on and sack off the travel. Just want my ticket in hand on leaving the UK so European trips can again become free without the stress of wasting a large chunk of your time collecting what you have paid for and is rightfully yours

reckon that would work.

I don't really see why those who went to Bucharest had to collect. Seems to me that the system should only be used for sell outs, and then perhaps require 10% to collect.

But if it were that simple, I cant see why the club haven't introduced a better system. This process must be a right hassle for them. None of the theories that have been put forward as to why they want all of that hassle (eg to encourage fans to go on official trips) seem to me to stack up.

I'm going to guess that people that were having tickets passed onto them by mates have got to be pretty dedicated blues to travel to Europe to watch city.
The chances are they are now going to qualify under their own points now anyway ?

The only games where this becomes an issue are the likes of Barcelona (1st time), Seville, Ajax and our recent trip to Celtic. Domestic ones are obviously the Derby, Liverpool, arsenal, Spurs away and any small grounds like Bournemouth and maybe burnley & Watford.

So no they're not really very dedicated in my opinion. They're in general big game fairweather supporters who happen to know somebody who's willing to sell their ticket on.

My colleague is a United season ticket holder who went to watch them play away in Madrid a couple of years ago. He was successful in the ballot and a week after finding out was contacted via email to say he would have to collect his ticket in Madrid. Apparently they randomly select around 20% of the fans attending and apply this rule (to avoid touting). When he arrived in Madrid he did what most City fans did and headed to Plaza Mayor. There he found a little booth similar to the program booths outside the Etihad who were distributing the tickets.

My question is, why can United have a little Booth in the main area fans are congregating, whereas City decide to rent out an incredibly inconvenient building to do it?

United suspended the ticket collection completely in Rotterdam as they feared it was a potential security risk. That shows a level of common sense and flexibility that we appear to be lacking. Perhaps that's why they chose to let Chisholm defect!!

Someone earlier in the thread said it stops knobheads going, it certainly doesnt ! we were in the queue for 90 mins when a coach full of coked up pricks turned up. One particualr knob said 'it doesnt say anywhere on my fuckin letter i have to queue, so you can all fuck off' and about 15 pushed in the queue. they the threatened someone to knock him out for telling them to get in the queue. It was an absolute farce.
I will echoe what someone said earlier, what industry treats their paying customers in that manner ? Nobody in any other walk of life would stand for that treatment.

Some people still don't seem to get it!
The system was not introduced to stop points whoring ! It Is to allow the club to ensure the person buying the ticket is the one sitting in the seat. people have suggested various ways of achieving this without having to queue up abroard. The reason the club seems to be going overboard with collections/wristbands etc still isn't clear. So stop harping on about you love the system because it's fairer and at least the tickets go to the right people, that element will not change !

Exactly, so avoid the very inconvenient ticket collection abroard
Surely there system is something we could take points from if people have booked travel and can prove they have made arrangements they're shouldn't be any concern that said person wouldn't be going to the game , the only problem with City is they release information far too late for this to viable ,I agree with the ticket collections to a certain extent but don't agree with the planning of it and the system they have in place to distribute the tickets
