Good point regarding the increase in tourist supporters.
Sadly they may replace the core mancunian fan base and or with capacity increase there will be just more tourists but it will significantly benefit local people with an increase in job opportunities.

As much as we dislike the rag vermin, the amount of work I get certainly increases when they are playing at home.
Cockney rags pay for my season ticket haha

There will be a more tourist fans, but there is no reason why they would replace local fans. If the North stand has cheap s/c same as the south. There is plenty of room for both. Especially if at some point we get safe standing, which I think is inevitable as some point.

A few "Tourists" turn up the odd game to see players like Aguero, Lewandowski, Barcelona, Ronaldo etc. They go for the occasion. And why not.

You see them on Champions League nights. You don't see them at regular games because there are very few match-day tickets available.

There are games that are selling out two months in advance now (arsenal). Expand the North Stand. I'm sure they will plan on selling it to seasoncard holders so this is a non-issue. Perception and reality. You looks at our season ticket base and you realise that City have a hard core of support now that is 50% bigger than what it was 10 years ago.

The where were you when you were sh't, does actually have some relevance, but I'd rather be the fastest growing club in Europe than a club in stagnation and decline.

we were getting full grounds under keegan and pearce though ( until it dropped off a bit) most of our fans were there when we were shit and are now taking there sons/daughters to the games

FFP has nothing to do with ticket prices. The club will sell tickets at the maximum price they can on a sustainable basis. I think it is naive to believe that the owners are looking to subsidise a pastime for working class mancuniams. It is the empty swathes of the ground for cup games that is keeping these ticket prices down. A ustained period of success (15/20 years) will see casual fans fill these games and enable the club to ump prices up.
Our best hope for cheaper tickets is a bigger stadium, with the club looking to develop their pricing strategy so that cheap seats are available even if they are on the front row or in the gods.

Is that the FA Cup games that mostly sell out ?

The only cup games we struggle to sell are midweek ones against unfancied teams, the same as everyone else, as shown by the fact united had nobody (apparantly they're still counting them) at their game V Zorya last week, its obvious why, the clue is in 'midweek', and we'll easily sell out Celtic, with Barca sold out a month in advance.

How much do we get charged for fa cup tickets?

We nearly fill the ground because the away team take a lot more and the tickets are a fraction of league costs.

My point is that if we had more demand them the prices would go up. A sustained period of success would see more people wanting to come and far higher cup prices. They will charge the most they can to fill the ground. Or nearly fill it.

You said "swathes of empty seats for cup games" its not true, I was pointing out it was mostly midweek cup games. We already have some of the cheapest season tickets in the country, we should be grateful for that, and our pricing for cup games is generally good. I just get fed up reading about "swathes of empty seats" from blues, because there aren't, its a rag/dipper/media myth, we struggle to sell out midweek cup games, because well they're midweek, and for many inconvenient for all sorts of reasons, and yet Barca sold out a month before, and Celtic will likely follow suit, so stop pedalling the myth on their behalf. And as pointed out we're not alone struggling with midweek games either.

We will extend, and we will fill the expansion, maybe not midweek, but for most league and fa cup games we will, the sooner the better for me, even if we do have empty seats occasionally.

Quite right. 54k average last season in the PL suggests increasing the capacity has been beneficial, as that was up by nearly 9 000 on the preceding season.

Maybe, but our last home fa cup tie was 44,000 (pre-extension) despite prices being low and boro bringing a big following.
It is a fact that we don't yet have the demand to sell as many tickets at the prices that others can.

I'm not bothered by this, in fact i'm pleased as I'd be getting far more stung for matches if this wasn't the case.

Only check this thread out now and then, has it been confirmed what is to be built on the land at the side of the stadium yet? Is this the Collar site?

If you're not a seasoncard holder, you're paying more for your League tickets than Utd fans.

The ground is full for league games so the expansion was worth it and it builds bigger gates for the Cup games by making more regulars. And a further round is needed: Arsenal sold out more than 2 months before KO. Barcelona 5 weeks in advance

Who are these others? Rags and Arsenal have cup tickets included in season ticket prices so these count even if ST holders don't go. They're more likely to go/sell on as they've already paid. These are the only clubs to sell more tickets for home FA Cup games that season than City. Not Liverpool, not Chelsea not Spurs. In the 14/15 season (last time City played at home) we had two home games and got over 44k for both. The mighty Spurs got 20 000 for a midweek replay against Burnley whilst Everton and West Ham played in front of 47 000. Mind you that was the original tie at Goidison and the replay at West Ham.
Talk about strategies for selling more tickets by all means, but don't spout falsehoods to make your point, whatever point it is supposed to be.

Incorrect my friend.

That was a sell out.

The ground held 45k that season due to development works, with an increase on segregation for that game due to the large boro following.

if your counting Facebook fans then yea i agree with you, but we are heavily reliant on local fans to fill our ground regularly, i agree that could change, but we dont have millions of fans if we did we would sell out every game no problem. but if we keep the prices low we dont have to become like united or liverpool and have a ground full of southerners or tourists, but grow that local core fan base. if the etihad were to end up like old trafford it would be awful - a ground where mancunians dont benefit in anyway. where do this 40% figure come from btw - source ?

The 40% figure is based on the fact that post Etihad, Dennis Tueart came to a supporters club meeting at Northenden, a discussion took place about the new stadium and how big it was going to be, 50000 or 60000. 50000 was the clubs decision, as they felt we would fill it with our then current fan base and demand for match day tickets and season ticket holders. It would be built to enable simple expansion. Somebody asked how the club measured the demand for tickets and Dennis replied simply that records were kept of where sales and enquiry was made, and 36% at that time were made in the South East, he joked, don't tell the United Fans. I have friends and relatives in Surrey, Reigate, Eastbourne and Bexhill, we often travel down there and more often than not I'll see all ages of people wearing City merchandise. The demographic of fans at home is changing dramatically, and away to a certain extent. Like it or not, we are attracting fans from all over the place, and some of those that once went regularly, are again starting to attend. I was looking at the programme last night for the last game at Maine Road against Southampton. There is a fans roll of honour throughout it, containing thousands of fans names. As many are from outside of Manchester, than in it. The club know better than us where and how our fan base is growing, consider the train they run from London now. I remember us playing Arsenal in the cup a few years ago, we won 1 nil late on. There were 9000 blues at the game, unheard of for a midweek night game in London. Like it or lump it, we are becoming the next club to support for younger fans and those around the country and World. Pep is the new draw for many fans, add to that the probable cup and league success he will bring for several years, add some top quality players, more sponsorship, more income, more seats in the stadium. Don't underestimate what the club and hierarchy are doing to enhance the clubs standing, it's a growing project with no end in sight. Massive as the Red cnuts would say....!

Spot on Sir, more fans the better i say i have no problem with the " tourest " fan brings money to the club, and the new fans welcome, I know where i and my family came from as City fans, and all us long standing and suffering fans should be happy the club is growing this way not moaning about it, i can not wait to see a full 60k plus stadium.
