Etihad atmosphere

I would add that the prevailing attitude/cynicism referred to in my earlier post is exactly what killed off prematurely the only real thing we've had that worked en masse, around the ground and across the age groups and which had acquired a reputation in and out of the club ... The Poznan, love it or loathe it. Well that and the Yaya/Kolo thing which being player specific had a shelf life.

This is a problem with football in general rather than just City/Eastlands, the cost of going and all-seater stadiums make a huge impact. It all depends on the game, as well. Playing BMG a few weeks back was one of the best atmospheres I've seen in a while, and that was a nothing game, really.

Oh yeah bring back the Poznan.

Obviously we need a ballot for home games!
All the quiet boring old timers blocking the massed ranks of young lads from attending

Maybe we could have auditions so people can demonstrate their vocal range. Only the elite can be relocated to the singing section. Fairer than a ballot.

The last two home games we've been drawing 1-1 and going for the winner last 10mins or so, instead of encouraging the team and sort of trying to "suck the ball into the net" everyone was leaving! I sit in south stand level 3 on the last seat in the row and couldn't see a thing because everyone was pilling down the stairs like a fire drill

How difficult is it to clap your hands and shout 'come on City' when we are building from the back or win a corner or whatever.
How precious and self conscious do you have to be to be so timid you can't shout at a football match?

Get in your seat for the kick off.
Stay in your seat until the half time whistle blows and clap the team off.
Be back in your seat for the start of the second half.
Stay in your seat until the final whistle blows and clap the team off.
While the match is in progress encourage the team by clapping your hands, shouting or joining in with any songs that do materialize in our library of a stadium.

Piece of cake.

Someone needs to make one of them infomercials or cartoon pamphlets on "how to be a good supporter" with clear instructions like this.

Also maybe a long shot but maybe the club could encourage sections to compete with each other to make the most noise with prizes given out at the end of the game? Could even use decibel meters so there's no arguing.

fair point sergio 3, yesterday fans were leaving with 12 minutes to go. Knowing that a win would make us go two points clear at the top why go early, in fact why go to the game if you are not to fussed about the final score.

Fans are very critical & negative these days and a lot has to do with sky / talkshite / motd. Pundits & commentators never see a good goal it is a defensive mistake, a player has a good game but makes one minor mistake and he is shite, a manager loses 3 games on the bounce and he needs sacking.. Fans watch this crap and start looking at football the same way.

Watched the match again on TV today and heard boos at the end. Couldn't hear them yesterday in East Stand upper but you could on TV. For Christ's sake some of these JCLs need to get a grip.

The booing was an absolute disgrace.

Only way the atmosphere will improve is with cheaper tickets and more teenagers going.

should have made the singing stand in the cheapest section of the ground, its us scrubbers that sing and not the prawn butty brigade

I can only manage down from Scotland around 4 or 5 times a season and it never ceases to amaze me how shit an atmosphere there is at the Etihad. Over 50 thousand and you can hear a pin drop.

I've had the good fortune to see Schalke04 twice and there's no comparison. The Krauts no how to gee their team on. On the other end of the scale I've seen more noise come out of Dunfermline and there's only 3k go there a Saturday for f**ks sake.

Quite frankly everyone enjoys playing us as intimidating we're not and the team itself is quite generous these days too!

In fairness, you can try to do all you want regarding atmosphere, but the club seemed more interested in flogging bloody asian robots on Sunday than it did the game.

The atmosphere is poor, and for once, I don't think this one is on the club. We the supporters need to look at ourselves and stop making excuses.
  • People used to moan that it was because a large portion of the South Stand was taken by away fans, yet this season, we have an extra tier and a expanded singing section. It's not made one jolt of difference.
  • Last season people moaned that Pellegrini's football was boring. This season we've got arguably the best manager in the world in charge, playing some of the best football (noticeable exception of Sunday) and it's still quiet.
  • People used to moan that the players never engaged with the fans. This season, after every home game the players gather in a huddle to applaud the stadium. There's hardly any fans left to reciprocate.
I stand in the first tier of the South Stand, and you can hear a pin drop in there at times. If we're meant to be the loudest, then the rest of the ground must be like a morgue...
