United post-match thread

That's up to you mate, I have no reason to lie about what I believe in but that is irelevant.

So in your mind is fighting for a cup more important or defending it? I'm probably torn between the two to be honest with you, always liked the idea of retaining a cup for whatever reason but enjoy the thrill of trying to win something that was lost out on previously, I do agree in that the FA cup will be different for us this year as we might not have a fixture pile up.
Fighting or defending it makes no odds to me, I refer the right honourable gent to SWPS back handy guide to prioritisation.

Surely then it would have made more sense to have played a strong team yesterday, then rested players at the weekend before the Barça match. It was a derby ffs and we should have given it everything - not just because it's a competition we stood a strong chance of winning, but also because it was THEM and we could have left them in real crisis. Losing a derby hurts - whatever the competition.

Why would it make more sense to rest players in the competition that matters more?

So in your world our priorities read

Win the Derbies
Champs League
PL/FA Cup/League Cup (order may change according to cup draw, should Rags be drawn in LC then that jumps in priority)
?

Quite right, we should have sent a team of youngsters and first team bench warmers to the swamp as it was obvious PEG would put out a strong team after the Chelsea debacle.

The League should be the main priority for our Club until we get a squad that can cope with the demands of 4 competitions.

Worse than the Pogba that hardly got a kick because of Fernando?

Pogba got plenty of the ball he just didn't do much with it. Every time Fernando did get the ball it went backwards - when we had the ball Garcia moved into space, Fernando was always blocked off or next to a utd player.

He was the senior player in midfield and was totally out shone by Garcia.

Fernando is nowhere near good enough for the level we want to be at.

If we hadn't been playing the rags there would be none of this over reaction
Grow a pair it's a marathon not a sprint

I know Kaz, but I can't stand being beaten by them. What makes matters worse is that they put out a full team, they were crap and were there for the taking. I'm still so bloody frustrated by the result and the way we played.

Not sure Fernando was terrible, he clearly had a 'stopping' brief. I agree wholeheartedly though that he was outshone by Garcia, one of them looks to have a future here...

not too stressed about being out, i think in the long run its for the best - a bit arrogant i know, but we must make the league and chumps lge the priority.

utd, to be fair, came out in the 2nd half with a better attitude, and we were minus Vinny again. probably a blessing in disguise this result, especially when we are feeling the pressure of the last 6 games without a win. win at west brom and the whole complexion of the last few weeks can spin round. go into barca with confidence as well.

it goes without saying that i will be cheering on anyone apart from utd, arsenal and liverpool for the rest of this comp though!

Exactly. This wouldn't even be a debate if it wasn't United we played last night. I swear some of our fans would prefer a derby win than having a good run in the CL and competing for the title.

Why are contesting the derby and having runs in other comps mutually exclusive? Some people talk like this is gospel. Anyone remember when last night's opponents won the treble? (Not that we are contemplating that, but it does go to show).

And while we are at it, it's not a binary choice between resting nobody or forfeiting the match FFS. When it comes to rotation, there are several numbers between 0 and 9.

And finally, the usual smug smart-arses who claim only they understand football can fcuk off. Surely even those arrogant bastards might understand why opinion is divided if they actually paused for thought.

Emperor's New Clothes= Pep.
Hart decision was incorrect, the Toure situation is farcical , Aguero's treatment is poor, and the petulant banning of wifi is pathetic, we haven't won a game since. The first half v Southampton was the most boring game I have seen in many a year. If Pep went tomorrow , I wouldn't lose a wink of sleep.

Stop fishing

So do you think all the players who say he is the best coach they've ever worked under are lying?

Hahaha. So you suggest we start Toure? We havn't won a game because he banned wifi? If the Southampton first half was boring you needed to see the Rags game we played last year mate.

Hart has done so many cockups and doesnt want to learn the new style
Toure gone cos he is a lazy twat and his agent is just a twat - Doi you want to us to roll over to his agents demands?
Wifi is banned so the players concentrate on the football and not social media - Do you want them to be allowed to use social media at the expense of training?
1 half against Southampton was boring - Yes you are correct
If Pep went tomorrow we would replace him with who?

..... And meanwhile back in reality we are top of the league, 2nd behind Barca with a more than realistic chance of progressing to the knockout stages. Get a fucking grip

The rags won the treble, not the quadruple i.e. the league cup. The prem league is far more competitive now than then. We play a system that relies on pressing thus working harder off the ball and more testing in terms of fitness over the course of a season. We've had a high number of games recently, two a week, due to the CL group stages. Resting players is an absolute must plus we have a few injuries. It's important we blood youngsters otherwise none of them will step up and would you rather do that in the league cup or in a league game?

If last night's opponents were Chelsea or Spurs I imagine people would feel very different. Yes we lost to a rival and no city fan likes that BUT criticising Pep for thinking about the bigger picture is wrong and misguided.

Let's see who has the better season come May. I'm pretty confident we won't be looking back on this game with hurt.
