He's this years must-have young centre back. We've had a few of them over the last few years, with varying degrees of success. Let's hope he's the real deal if he comes to us.

Physically strong, like a prime Kompany. Also good at setting up attacks. Still has difficult time defending but the team he is in shares the blame most of the time.
 
defo not worth that amount of money being asked or talked about in my book but i am backing pep in whoever comes in or not this window

Sorry I just don't agree. If he is moving it is a slap in the face to Southhampton fans. If he is potentially moving at some point in the future and City is a possible destination, he could have put the biggest move of his career in jeopardy. It was a blatantly stupid thing to do. It probably will have no affect on anything, but it COULD and that is why you don't put it on. If he doesn't understand this I would question whether he is ready to be one of the biggest transfers in PL history.

Don't know what you're worried about, even the media who love to make mountains from mole hills aren't making anything from it.

If a club pulled out of a £40+ million deal on a player they have extensively scouted because he wore a opposition shirt then it would say more about them than the player.

No for me at this sort of money.

We go with what we have this year and look to address our deficiencies in the summer when the type of player we should be after are available.

January is not the time to panic buy and it certainly isnt the time where real quality is available.

I don't think this would be a panic buy in the slightest. Van Dijk is big, strong, relatively quick and good on the ball. IMO he's the closest thing to Kompany in world football.

He's been one of the outstanding CBs in the PL for the past 2 seasons and still has his best years ahead of him.

He's PL proven and would improve the team in the short term and long term. He's less of a gamble than Stones.

No issue with that but does Pep rate or even want him?

If we bid then fine but for me, January is for panic buys generally and you dont get your first choice often as they are all busy playing in the CL and wont move.

We have also shown that with 4 at the back, we are not the shambles most think we are and are still on course for a brilliant season fingers crossed.

If we do rate the lad and want him then do the deal in the summer and for the right money and not net month, being strug along until the last minute and paying a ridiculous premium for the privilege.

The price doesn't worry me at all as I'm not paying.

The only question is "would he strengthen us"

He would so I'd be happy.

Again no issue with that.

What you do have to think about though is players being able to take on board what Pep wants and execute it and as seen so far, it doesn't happen over night.

If we go for him then great, im happy if the club are happy but I think we have to just take stock, realise all is not lost or that we are as bad as some want to make out and go for our absolute number 1 targets whoever they may be.

You don't think the club has a limited amount of money it is willing to spend (whether it be good stewardship or simply FFP or whatever...)? Always found the "its not my money" line to be a bit short-sighted.
