It's smaller than some of the contracts NFL and NBA players sign for, it's much less than some actors get for films.

£50m isn't that much money at all really. TV companies are dishing out nearly £2bn every season to the 20 Prem clubs.

I know mate and agree but as i said to SWP's back, it still IS a lot of money to me.

Like i said earlier, it is what it is and it isnt going to change, in fact the numbers will get even bigger.
 
Have to say he has not been impressive. We have wasted so much money on CB's we should only be buying players that are outstanding.

Means nothing though, I mean stones was absolutely shite for an entire season yet we still got stung for mega bucks and bought him anyways.

Still would get him though. Top with Otamendi in terms of aerials won and tackles won. Thing is Southampton is too reliant on him. Already he has been the MOTM four times and scored 3 goals. Not bad for a CB but shows the quality around him. Not so sure about being stranded in the wrong half of the field and his mates trying to fill his position. Around low side of 30m would be a good signing. Currently top 5 CB across all main European leagues, alongside hummels, Perrins, Azpilicueta, and yes, Otamendi.

There appears to be a shortage of really good, available centre backs at present.

There just isn't that many good viable options to choose from, The idea that VvD is worth the figures mentioned on here is just madness....

However, he may well be the best of a poor lot and will improve us. I worry about Kompany - I, like us all and would love him to stay fit.

Yes, I think paying over the odds is sill(it'd be nice to find someone before we decide they're worth paying 40/50 million for them) crazy despite what others think.

But, in saying all that I'd hate for the rags or dippers to secure his signature. I wouldn't mind a pair of fullbacks while we're at it too :)

Huh? What are you talking about. I would love to sign this guy. If we add Laporte in the summer we have our back 3 for the next 6 years.
 
Not good enough, would be another young defender with potential rather than actual world class ability

We need a fully fledged experience player to pass on his knowledge to stones, vinny was going to be that man but unfortunately he's made of glass

Godin would be perfect if we could prise him from athletico
 
What the fuck? The guy has one bad game and suddenly everyone thinks he's not good enough?

Right now he's a hell of a lot better than almost anyone else in the league, and certainly better than Stones and Tosin will be for a good few years.
