Player Topic: Georgi Kinkladze (1995-98)

Kinkladze was a lazy **** & had no intention of ever changing.

That's the top & bottom of why he couldn't play in City's team if he was around now & never reached the top back then.

Talent wise, he could have done pretty much anything & some of the stuff he did do, was pretty difficult to top.

A young, hard working, team oriented version of Kinkladze would be the star of this team now. But the real one would just say 'no' when Pep asked him to do stuff.

He'd drive Pep mental with his lack of graft. A fantastically talented player without a doubt; one of the most naturally gifted players we've had at the club. But he did have a tendency to go missing in games, particularly on our travels. Skill on its own is not enough for Pep; witness the effect he's had on Kun.

Kinky was the one immense talent in a team of incompetents. Had he applied himself then he’d have been a world beater. Just too lazy and selfish. Relegated twice in three seasons yet still proud to have watched him.

Remember his performance v Wales and some wonder goal, which I presume alerted us to him and his ability.

A very bright shining light in an era of doom and gloom. That’s it though and to see his name even mentioned in the same breath as Silva is laughable, even Nasri.

Kinky moved onto a then bigger and better club, failed miserably and then, if I recall, ended up at Derby.

He was a good player. But that’s it.

One of the biggest waste of talent in football.

Kinky was a player that should have been mentioned in the same breath as Messi and Ronaldo, but he is not known outside of manchester and Georgia.

He was an utter and total waster. Two consecutive relegations with him in the side.

Time has probably added to the legend. He was a very skilful player who perhaps lacked the mentality to be one of the best .

Any judgement of him at City must be set against the fact that on the footballing side we were dreadful and only heading one way.

But he did give some great moments

He was a shining star in the sea of darkness that engulfed us after relegation from the PL. I will never forget how good he was and the wonderful goals and memories. Those saying he was lazy blah blah are entitled to a view I suppose but should look to the management and other players.
As for after he left City he didn’t pull up trees but don’t know the reasons why other than being played out of position at Ajax

He was a bright light for us during our absolute shit show of an era.
But, he was nowhere near good enough for a top team. He failed miserably at Ajax and did not pull up any trees at Derby.
He has a fabulous highlights reel but was too inconsistent.
Whether someone like Pep could have utilised him better and integrate him into a team, rather than him being a one man band is an interesting debate.
