Everton V City post match

Take into account last seasons's master-class of how to dominate opposition. Take into account the records we surpassed, and realise that us fans have unrealistic expectations.
Absolutely understandable that the match-day thread, mbm is full of emotional over-reaction, adrenaline-fuelled comment inevitable when the chance of dropping points is still there. The tsunami of relief at the second goal is the give-away of how desperate we are, a situation we rarely had to face last season, if at all.
For all it's ridiculous knee-jerk, drama queen "season's over.....sack him...sell him...everyone's cup-final...never-a-pen...nailed-on-pen...." the match-day thread is a window on the soul of City fans......warts an' all...........long may it be so.

I always look upon it as 'the curse of the two goal lead'! We FOCs in CBL3 have difficulty breathing (nothing to do with the altitude, either!) unless we have a three goal lead and at least 87mins have been played!

Just reading that Stones clapped the Gwladys St as he went off and seems to have been well received.

Was a time when there was a fair bit on ill feeling between City and Everton but seems to have died down. Perhaps it was because they kept beating us.
I think it was a mixture of incidents occurring in such a short space of time that caused the initial tension between us. Back when we had Hughes and Mancini in charge we were rivals with them - in 2009 we finished 10th and 5th respectively, in 2010 we finished 5th and 8th, in 2011 we finished 3rd and 7th. Before we started overtaking them we poached Lescott from them in 2009 and Moyes made a real stink for weeks on end in the media, which definitely generated their ill-feeling towards us. We were the "nouveau riche" and they were the honest underdogs, a reputation Moyes knew how to use to develop an overachieving side. They were a proper bogey team for us for years as well, making a point of beating us at Goodison every season and then nicking results off us at the Etihad, often in controversial or dramatic circumstances (red cards, last minute winners). I remember when we beat them 2-0 at the Etihad at the beginning of the 2011/12 season, it was a big deal for us to finally get a result from them. We didn't win at Goodison until the 13/14 season!

Since then we've established ourselves as the best team in the country while they've had a few years out of the top six - we sent Gareth Barry there and he was great for them, they've started spending a lot of money themselves, we relied on each other to stop Liverpool winning the title in 13/14, it all contributes to a softening of the rivalry. I think the real killer, though, was the second leg of the League Cup semi-final in 2016. They were noisy, boisterous, and they thought they had one hand in the final when Barkley scored to put them 3-1 up on aggregate, but then we swept them aside in the second half and signed John Stones in the summer. The difference in Everton's response to us signing Stones when compared to Moyes' behaviour in 2009 was pretty revealing. When we signed Lescott we'd finished five places behind them the previous season; when we signed Stones we were a Champions League club and they'd finished in the bottom half. They didn't even fight for him, they just gave him up because they knew it was the right thing for Stones' career. In the end, our financial dominance and success on the pitch coinciding with them going through a patch of mid-table obscurity has contributed to where we are now: complete and utter indifference.

I watched the extended highlights (www.mancity.com) and we could have won a lot more comfortably. We created a lot more chances than I was aware of.

Game management was poor until De Bruyne came on. We didn't keep the ball well enough. Final 7 minutes we played out well. Bernardo and De Bruyne did an excellent job and we saw it out. Again we failed to take our chances. We had three or four we ahould have scored in the first half and it was the same at the end of the Arsenal game.

Against Chelsea we might not get many so have to put them away.

Chelsea away from home have been indifferent but we looked leggy last night. De Bruyne coming in and Sterling starting should help and we have plenty on the bench. Mendy might start and give us a 60 minute shift which would help too.

We don't have to win the game, but it sure would help us in the long run. It puts immense pressure on Liverpool who would play their game in hand at the rags. The rags will be desperate to beat them.

We are the neutrals choice over Liverpool so most teams will be stepping up against them now. That goes for all games not just away at Goodison and United.
The passing was poor and Merlin should have been subbed 70 minute mark for me as he was not having the best game ( freekick aside).

KDB offered more drive and guile when he came on and definitely needs to start on Sunday.

Pretty sure he will. We had a very strong side out and there are not many to come in for the Chavs game. KDB for D Silva might be the only change. Gundo and F'dinho as a midfield two seems to be working well at the moment, that might get an extended run. It is more solid and saves F'diho's legs a bit.

Up until de Bruyne was introduced, we were surrendering both possession and territory, and it was looking as if a repeat of the last ten minutes at Watford was in the offing.

As Mahrex and Mendy are rarely featuring, it’s essentially the same team as last year, but with Silva in particular looking less effective.

Also, we used to be so dominant and imperious that it came as a genuine shock when we dropped points, particularly against Burnley and United.

Opponents have since decided that the best tactic is to defend deep, and keep their shape and discipline, (even when losing) until the last 15 minutes, before playing long balls down the channels, attempting to win cheap corners and free kicks.

It didn’t work for Everton, but Walker’s body shape suggests a stupid penalty lurking around the corner.
