Referees' Performances | 2025/26

One of the most consistently poor refereeing performances in recent memory. No real stand out moments because just everything was wrong. Literally everything.

The bit that got my back up most was Tonali committed 3 clear fouls when we were breaking forward and didn't get booked for any of them. Then Bobb barely clips Tonali in the 94th minute in their back corner and is immediately booked. How? In what world? The fucking audacity is mind boggling.
We end up having 3 players booked and them 1. I’m presuming Bernardo was booked for speaking his mind after the whistle. Time club started calling them out.

Worst I can remember for a while. VAR even worse. The tackle in Foden was assault and penalty. Their centre half then saved it in the area. The goal was blatantly offside.
You missed the one where Ruben was thrown to the floor by his neck at a corner when the ref blew the play dead after the ball was in play.

Football at the highest level is not a spectator sport, it's television product, VAR has nothing to do with fairness, it was introduced to add an element of jeopardy for a TV audience.

I believe that as fans, we have bought into the narrative created by the media. Last week everyone was laughing at/talking about/being outraged at the treatment of Liverpool.

For as long as football fans go along with the idea of 'let's all laugh at' partisan support, VAR and Pgmol will continue with getting away with murder and nothing will improve.

The re-refereeing of football matches has become an industry, and a very lucrative one at that.

I think it is obvious to refs that if you don't give City harsh decisions you can forget about managing any big games and your career is not going to be great. Pretty much like when a cyclist realizes that if he isn't doping he should just quit.

Exactly . It's a way of keeping fans engaged. Indignation is rocket fuel to the media . Endless melodrama , controversy and debate . I have no idea how to stop it though . It's pure catnip week after week . My main gripe is the way it demeans the experience of the fans at the ground and interrupts the game . As spectators in the ground we have gone from the dynamic highs and lows of a game in flow to a stop start stop muted celebration , look at the linesman / referee hold your breath and feel bewildered experience that's no longer designed for us, despite the fact that we are paying for the privilege .

The penalty decision was bad enough but that picture var have shown us of the off side is outrageous. Any other side and there would be uproar. Yes the better side probably won but that game was manipulated. We need to call these decisions out, fuck being my mr nice guy

Disgrace today. 2 clear penalties denied. Newcastles midfield allowed to constantly foul. This disrupts play. If the midfield is on a yellow it stops them deliberately disrupting and we can get at them. It also gives them the comfort of a free yellow to blatantly stop any attacks later in the game.

Lets say we break, Tonali or joelinton could know they have license to haul someone down in an emergency. Joelinton did.

Today was not refereeing, it was managing.

Im replying to my own post about City keepers receiving yellow cards and on and on it continues again today. Donnarumma has played 7 games and received theee yellow cards now.
And here we go yet again a city keeper is given a card. Along with Ederson I think we comfortably have the most carded keepers in the entire history of world football. I find myself saying it almost every other week now. Time wasting, arguing at the referee, wearing a pair of gloves its beyond a joke and id be more than happy to see the club say to Pep we're putting 100k to one side every week for the incoming fines, go for it fella and call the shit out and we'll back you with the fines. It will continue until we stand up for ourselves.

People are going to fuck watching football off if it isn't sorted. There's no consistency and the all singing dancing var cant get stuff right after taking ages to.look at incidents. The standards of referees is poor to say the least. It needs to go back to what it was originally brought in for, clear offsides, serious foul play and blatant penalties missed.

Me too . I think the referee was intimidated . That midfield were in his ear all game and Tonali got away with it all match . No idea why the foul on Foden wasn't a penalty either .

In what league, year, era, universe is THAT ^^^ NOT a late, both feet off the ground, over the top, eyes closed, ankle breaker of a foul?

Anywhere else on the field, it’s at least a foul and a yellow card, if not more.

In what world do PAWSON ET AL NOT SEE THAT AS A FOUL?

Can’t wait to see what Red Specs Webb has to say about that!!
