    Iain Banks has died

A terrible shame. One of my favourite authors. I'd wholeheartedly recommend 'Espedair Street' (about a fictitious Scottish 70s rock band) and 'Complicity' ( serial killer murder mystery) to anybody looking for an interesting read. RIP Iain.

    Ian Curtis-32 years On

I thought the documentary that was released around the same time as 'Control' was really good, excellent interviews with the remaining members of JD and some great footage. I saw it in Fopp recently going for £5. Well worth a fiver of anyone's money.

    The Smiths.

Thanks for the tip. I've just had a look and he has got some cracking stuff. I've just been watching a full gig in Madrid from the Meat Is Murder tour, great stuff!

    Author Recommendations

Such a shame about Iain Banks. I loved his earlier stuff, particularly Espedair Street and Complicity. Anyway, my recommendations: George Pelecanos - latterly a writer on The Wire but writes excellent crime fiction set in Washington DC Christopher Brookmyre - Scottish Crime fiction, very funny

    Johnny Marr

It wasn't aimed at Morrissey. He was talking about a book he'd recently seen called something like 'Crap Towns of England' and was having a to at the author for being a middle class pseud who slags off working class towns. He said it was the inspiration for writing 'Lockdown'.

    Johnny Marr

Just back from Johnny's gig at the Ritz. Top night, great performance from Johnny and the band. Amongst most of the latest album, he played Forbidden City and Getting Away With It by Electronic. A few Smiths songs got an airing - Stop Me If You Think You've Heard This One Before, London, How...

City Players who "never had a bad game"

I think Neil McNab deserves a mention, he was remarkably consistent for us over a few years. I'd also agree with Dave Watson - never saw him have a poor game.

    Johnny Marr UK tour 2013

I had a very different experience to be honest. Met him the day after we won the title and he was dead nice, chatty and gave me one of his plectrums. Top bloke, guitar genius, City fan.

Cheers for the heads up MES, I was only looking on his website yesterday and there were no details then. I'd probably have left it another week before checking back and missed out!
